Tom Thibodeau is eager to become the next head coach of the New York Knicks, sources told Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“He really wants the Knick job. He can taste it and he may even be in the lead," said a source close to Thibodeau.

The New York Post previously reported that Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy are on Leon Rose's shortlist to take over as the Knicks head coach.

Thibodeau has previous ties with Rose.

“It’s never a sure thing because of ownership, but Thibs knows he can work with Rose and also knows he’d be able to bring in his people as well," said Thibodeau's confidant.

Jay Wright took his name out of the running for job earlier this week.
