With the exception of a Memphis run under John Calipari, Conference USA teams haven't been able to sustain season after season success. Some of that has been their inability to recruit depth, but there have been many top players to spend one season in the conference.

The following players have won the C-USA Freshman of the Year award since 1998.

12. Jeremy Wise, Southern Miss, 2005

Wise went undrafted in 2010 after spending what would have been his senior season at Southern Miss in the D-League.

11. Darius Washington, Memphis, 2004

Washington, Florida's Mr. Basketball in 2004, went undrafted in 2006 after leaving Memphis as a sophomore. He participated in training camp with the Mavericks in 2006, but didn't make the team. A year later he was on San Antonio's Opening Night roster.

10. Sean Banks, Memphis, 2004

Banks also went undrafted in 2005, but he was on the Hornets' Opening Night roster.

9. Hassan Whiteside, Marshall, 2010

Whiteside averaged 13.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and a remarkable 5.4 blocks per game as a freshman for Marshall. He was unsurprisingly named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year.

He was the third pick of the second round by the Kings in 2010.

8. Rodney White, Charlotte, 2001

Like many players on this list, White played just one season of collegiate basketball. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for Charlotte.

7. DerMarr Johnson, Cincinnati, 2000

Johnson was the Parade Player of the Year during his senior year in high school and averaged 12.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during his lone season at Cincinnati.

He was the sixth overall pick by the Hawks in 2000 and his potential to build upon the potential he showed in high school will always be marred by his horrible car accident in 2002.

6. Shawne Williams, Memphis, 2006

Williams averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game during his lone season at Memphis. He also was the C-USA Tournament MVP and eventually helped lead the Tigers to the Elite Eight.

Williams was the 17th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Pacers and was out of the NBA during the 09-10 season before finding a home with the Knicks.

5. Francisco Garcia, Louisville, 2003

Garcia averaged 11.2 points per game as a freshman, showcasing his perimeter shot with a 42.5% from distance.

He went onto help lead the Cardinals to the 2005 Final Four.

4. Quentin Richardson, DePaul, 1999

Richardson was a big recruit for DePaul's program, as they were able to convince the All-USA First Team selection to stay in Chicago.

Richardson averaged 18.9 points and 10.5 rebounds as a freshman, also winning C-USA Player of the Year honors.

After slipping to 18th in the 2000 NBA Draft, Richardson has had a strong career and has averaged better than 14 points per game.

3. Larry Hughes, Saint Louis, 1998

Hughes averaged 20.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game for Saint Louis before becoming the eighth overall pick of the 1998 NBA Draft.

2. Tyreke Evans, Memphis, 2009

Evans was Calipari's final big recruit before leaving Memphis for Kentucky. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game during the 08-09 season.

He went onto score 20.1 points, 5.8 assists, 5.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game to win Rookie of the Year honors with the Kings.

1. Derrick Rose, Memphis, 2008

Rose began the C-USA streak of NBA ROYs in the 08-09 season with the Bulls.

During his only season at Memphis, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game, leading his veteran team to within a few seconds of a National Championship.
