No punishment for Batiste

Panathinaikos Athens center Mike Batiste didn’t receive any punishment for unsportsmanlike action in the game against Union Olimpija Ljubljana. The American was able to help his team to win against Efes Pilsen in their next game and was the most valuable player on the court.

Batiste recently kicked Saso Ozbolt of Union Olimpija in the head as the Slovenian lay on the ground under the basket. However, Batiste hasn‘t been fined for the dirtiest foul of the year and he led Panathinaikos to the third win this season. The big man finished the game with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Valencia says goodbye to coach Hussein

A 69-80 home loss to Armani Jeans Milano was too much for the Power Electronics Valencia GM. Valencia began the Euroleague season with only one win in four games, ultimately leading to the dismissal of head coach Manuel Hussein.

Assistant coach Chechu Mulero will become interim head coach indefinitely.

First win for CSKA

The Russian powerhouse, currently trying to make their ninth consecutive Euroleague Final Four appearance, has finally won its first game of the Euroleague season. Former Mississippi State star Jamont Gordon nearly finished with a triple-double, as CSKA Moscow defeated Euroleague-sensation Unijon Olimpija Ljubljana by a final of 65-55.

Game MVP Gordon scored 15 points, grabbed 9 boards and dished out 8 assists for CSKA. Kevin Pinkney led the Slovenian team with a career-high 26 points.

Nevertheless, it’s not time to panic for Union Olimpija, as they are in second place in the extremely strong Group D.

Despite this win over Olimpija, CSKA remains at the bottom of the standings.

Unbeatable Fenerbahce Ulker

Fenerbahnce Ulker Istanbul moved to a 4-0 record with an 81-68 victory at Siena against Montepaschi club. With this win, the Turkish team remains the only unbeaten team in the Euroleague and is the best start in franchise history.

Mirsad Turkcan led the winners with 13 points and 10 boards, while Bo McCalebb‘s 18 points nad 5 steals was not enouth to win for Montepaschi.

Eurocup start

Tuesday will be the day when 32 teams from 13 different countries will begin to battle for the Eurocup trophy (Europe’s second best tournament).

The season will open in Russia, where Krasnye Krylia Samara will play against Caserta. Krasnye Krylia is among the favorites to win the Eurocup this season, as they have five ex-NBAers (Jermareo Davidson, Qyntel Woods, Primoz Brezec, J.R.Bremer and Gerald Green) on their roster.

CSKA wrote a letter for the fans

After a rough start to the season, CSKA has decided to write a letter to their fans. CSKA published a public letter, where they asked for more time and patience.

“You all have supported us through the good and bad for many years, please don’t stop or give up on us now,“ CSKA wrote.

“Believe us, we know that as professional athletes we have to take some hits both mentally and physically. We hope to grow and build from it and continue a great tradition here at CSKA.“

The Russians have started the season with three losses but finally took the first win last week against Union Olimpija Ljubljana.

Free Enes? No more

The NCAA announced that Enes Kanter won’t be able to play for the University of Kentucky. According to the NCAA, Kanter is permanently ineligible for “receiving benefits above his actual and necessary expenses while playing for a club basketball team in Turkey”.

Kentucky will appeal the decision, holding out hope Kanter will be allowed to play.

The NCAA has allowed Kanter to resume practicing, but not compete or travel with the team while the appear remains pending.

Unicaja signs Roderick Blakney

Unicaja Malaga found a replacement for injured Terrell McIntyre, who will be sidelined for at least three weeks due to a foot injury. The Spanish club has decided to sign a two-month contract with 34-years-old veteran guard Roderick Blakney.

The American played for Panellinios Athens last season, where he averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals. According to the Spanish media, Unicaja offered a contract for Sarunas Jasikevicius but the Lithuanian didn‘t agree to sign a short-term deal.

Berni Rodriguez earned Weekly MVP award

There is more news from Malaga. Unicaja captain Berni Rodriguez, who was the key to victory against Virtus Roma, was also named the Euroleague’s player of the week. Rodriguez posted 24 points, dished out 10 assists, grabbed 5 rebounds, swiped 3 steals and ended the game with a 36 index rating.

Iverson game postponed

Allen Iverson’s debut with Besiktas Istanbul has been postponed. The Turkish team’s representative told the Associated Press that Iverson "didn’t feel ready" to play on Friday, but he is expected to make his debut on Tuesday, as Besiktas will open Eurocup season.

The former NBA superstar, who recently signed a $4 million contract over two years, will play his first game in Europe against the Serbian team, Hemofarm Stada.
