Eddie Gill signs with German team

Former Indiana Pacers and New Jersey Nets guard Eddie Gil decided to spend the rest of the season in Germany. The 32-year-old playmaker has signed a contract with EWE Baskets Oldenburg team, which won two out of four games and ranks fourth in the Eurocup group A.

Iverson’s nine points and Matt Walsh’s triple double

Matt Walsh, formerly of Florida, scored 13 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, dished out 11 assists and registered Eurocup’s fifth-ever triple double, but that was not enough for Asvel Basket as Besiktas earned their first victory (80-74) this season and regained hope to move to the next stage.

Shaq to join Iverson in Besiktas next year?

According to the media in Turkey, Shaquille O’Neal may move to Europe next season to join Iverson with Besiktas Istanbul club. Besiktas president Seref Yalcin told reporters that O’Neal wants to win championship ring with Celtics this year and next season he will come to play in Turkey.

Batiste out for two weeks

Panathinaikos Athens big man Mike Batiste will miss the rest of Euroelague regular season due to a leg injury he suffered during the game against Union Olimpija Ljubljana. Batiste has averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds in 27 minutes, and helped Panathinaikos (6-2) to be the leader of Euroleague group D.

Ricky Rubio’s second career double-double

Ricky Rubio scored 10 points and dished out 10 assists, as Regal Barcelona won their third game in a row by beating Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul 75-69.

Rubio also added four rebounds, four steals and tied his season-high 25 index ranking points. Former Los Angleles Clippers big man Boniface N’Dong led Regal Barcelona with 14 points, while Roko Ukic scored 13 for Fenerbahce Ulker.

Maccabi run win streak to seven

Former Gonzaga point guard Jeremy Pargo scored 14 points as Maccabi Tel Aviv won their seventh straight victory by defeating Partizan Belgrade by a 76-62 final.

Lior Eliyahu led the winners with 16 points, Chuck Eidson scored 13. James Gist ended up with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Jan Vesely, who is a projected Top-15 pick in 2011 NBA Draft, scored only 1 point (0-for-4 from the field).

Ratko Varda earned Euroleague weekly MVP honors

Asseco Prokom Gdynia big man Ratko Varda was named Euroleague MVP of the week. The 31-year-old center, who had 25 points (11/15 FG) and eight rebounds, finished the game against Zalgiris Kaunas with 31 index ranking point but that wasn’t enough for a win. Asseco Prokom lost the game by only three points (69-72).

Mirza Zupan named deaf athlete of the year

Mirza Zupan of Slovenian national team, who is legally deaf and wears hearing aids in both ears, has been named as the 2010 WIDEX Sportsman of the Year by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf.

Zupan also played in the 2010 FIBA Worlds, where he averaged 6.2 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Gasol woud love to see Ibaka playing for Spain NT

Serge Ibaka, who was born in Congo and moved to Spain in 2006, revealed in September that he would love to play for Spanish national team.

“If they would ask me, I would like to play for Spanish national team. It’s really what I would like to do. Spain has done a lot for me and I want to do something in return,” Ibaka said.

Pau Gasol likes idea of giving Ibaka a Spanish passport and letting him playing for NT.

"He is a young player that is playing at a high level in the NBA and could help the national team a lot," Gasol said. "I think it's good that he gets the nationality."

Matthews would consider playing overseas

Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews, who is averaging 15 points per game this season, could also be added to the list of players, who could come to Europe next year.

"I would think about it [playing overseas]. I love playing and you have to stay in shape some way, and the best way is by playing. So, if they say there is a lockout, then we'll have to take it from there," Matthews told ‘Beyond the Beat’.
