Tim Frazier Signing With Blazers For Remainder Of Season

The Portland Trail Blazers will sign Tim Frazier to a contract for the remainder of the season.

Frazier was just named D-League Player of the Week.

The Blazers need depth in the backcourt with Wesley Matthews out for the season.

Maine Red Claws guard Tim Frazier has been named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, March 23 – Sunday, March 29. This is the third Performer of the Week honor for Frazier this season.

Frazier’s Red Claws went 3-0 last week, clinching the Atlantic Division and the first overall seed in the Eastern Conference. During the week, he averaged 20.3 points on 48.9 percent shooting (22-for-45), to go along with 7.7 assists, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals.

Westchester Fires Kevin Whitted As Head Coach

The Westchester Knicks of the D-League have fired Kevin Whitted as head coach.

Craig Hodges will take over head coaching duties for the final games of the season.

The two coaches had tension throughout the season running the triangle offense with the second-worst record in the D-League.

Whitted, a first-year coach, was hired by Westchester general manager Allan Houston, his former Tennessee teammate.

 

Hodges is a Jackson disciple.

Jazz Purchase Idaho Stampede

The Utah Jazz have acquired the Idaho Stampede, becoming the eighth NBA team to fully own and operate its own NBA D-League team. The Stampede has also signed a one-year contract extension with the downtown arena and will continue to play in Boise, Idaho, for the 2015-16 NBA D-League season. Per team policy, financial terms were not released. 

“Our purchase of an NBA D-League team reflects the value we place on having an exclusive affiliate for player development and building the scope of our basketball operations to support the Jazz,” said Randy Rigby, Jazz president. “It is a tremendous commitment from the Miller family to make this acquisition that will contribute to our pursuit of becoming a championship-caliber team.”

The Jazz is the eighth NBA team to own an NBA D-League franchise, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers (Canton Charge), Golden State Warriors (Santa Cruz Warriors), Los Angeles Lakers (L.A. D-Fenders), New York Knicks (Westchester Knicks), Oklahoma City Thunder (Oklahoma City Blue), Philadelphia 76ers (Delaware 87ers) and San Antonio Spurs (Austin Spurs).

Jarell Eddie Named D-League Player Of The Week

Austin Spurs forward Jarell Eddie has been named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, March 16 – Sunday, March 22. The award is the first of Eddie’s career and he joins Kyle Anderson and Bryce Cotton as Spurs to have earned the honor this season. 

Eddie (6-7, 220, Virginia Tech) led Austin to a 2-0 week as his Spurs clinched a playoff spot on Friday with the 126-113 win over the Texas Legends and secured the team’s status as the Southwest Division Champion following the 115-95 victory over the Bakersfield Jam on Saturday.     

For the week, Eddie averaged 26.0 points on 65 percent shooting to go with 6.5 rebounds.  He connected on 63 percent (12-of-19) of shots his from behind the arc last week, securing a season-high 34 points off the bench against the Jam.

Rio Grande Valley Vipers guard Jarvis Threatt has been named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played Monday, March 9 – Sunday, March 15.  The honor is the first of Threatt’s career.

Threatt (6-2, 165, Delaware) led Rio Grande Valley to a 2-0 week and averaged 25.0 points on 55 percent shooting, to go with 12.5 assists, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. On March 15, Threatt notched a triple-double with 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a 131-125 win over the Santa Cruz Warriors. It was the fourth triple-double in Vipers franchise history, joining Will Conroy, Gary Talton and Toure’ Murry. The win ended Santa Cruz’s 11-game winning streak.

Raptors Assign Lucas Nogueira To D-League

The Toronto Raptors have assigned Lucas Nogueira to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA Development League.

Nogueira will continue to be included on the Raptors’ roster and will remain on the team’s inactive list. He is expected to be in uniform for the Mad Ants on Saturday when they play host to the Delaware 87ers at 7:30 p.m.

Nogueira made his NBA debut November 21 versus Milwaukee and grabbed a season-high five rebounds in nine minutes of action. He has played a total of 23 minutes in six games with Toronto this season, recording six points and 11 rebounds.

A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nogueira was selected 16th overall by Boston in the 2013 NBA Draft.
