Ron Holland Joins G League Ignite

May 31, 2023 2:45 PM

Ron Holland will play for the G League Ignite next season.

Holland is the No. 2 ranked senior in high school basketball for the graduating class of 2023. Holland had committed to Texas but decommitted in late April.

Holland is the No. 6 prospect in the 2024 NBA draft.

"This process was not easy," Holland told ESPN. "At times it was scary because at times I had no idea where I would be.

"The G League will help me reach my potential as a basketball player and prepare me for the NBA. To have a long career, I need to prepare my body and improve my skills as I continue to try to win games. They have a program to help develop my body and my game. I know I have to work on being a more consistent shooter, along with my footwork and ball handling, so I can score in space on the perimeter against a set defender."

Holland is a 6-foot-8 forward from Duncanville (Texas) High School.

Matas Buzelis Signs With G League Ignite For Next Season

May 31, 2023 10:52 AM

Matas Buzelis, the projected first overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, has signed with G League Ignite for next season. Buzelis is a Chicago native who holds United States and Lithuanian citizenship.

This season, Buzelis played at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, after transferring from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. He won the Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year award for 2023, after winning the same award for New Hampshire the year prior.

The 18-year-old forward has measured in at 6-foot-10. Buzelis will look to follow the same path that led Jalen Green to being a high pick after playing with the Ignite. Scoot Henderson is a projected top-three pick in the 2023 draft, after he played two season for the Ignite.

G League To Have International Draft Program

May 10, 2023 8:30 AM

The G League will introduce a new international draft component ahead of next season. Under these new rules, international players between the ages of 18 and 21 will be able to play in the G League, without having to enter the following NBA Draft.

Currently, international players who sign with the G League between the ages of 18 and 21 become automatically eligible to be drafted in the following year's NBA Draft. The first ever international draft will be held on June 28.

The G League will set a random order for the international draft on June 19. It will consist of one round and will be held virtually. Players will have until July 7 to decide if they will play in the G League this season. Teams will hold a player's international G League rights for two seasons after drafting that player.

Suns Hoping To Launch G League Team Soon

May 2, 2023 8:41 AM

New Phoenix Suns governor Mat Ishbia touched on a number of topics in a wide-ranging interview with Boardroom. Most of the conversation was about the Suns decision to move their games to free over-the-air broadcasts for next season and beyond.

Ishbia was also asked about Phoenix being the only team without a G League affiliate club. Ishbia said that's something he hopes to change soon.

"100% I will have a G-League team. We were trying to get it done for this upcoming season, but it looks like the timing of it will be for the following season. We’re doing that as soon as we can. I’m trying to get it ready for next season, I just don’t think it’s going to work with getting the location and everything set up," Ishbia said. "But we are 100% going to have a G-League team here in Phoenix, and it’s going to be in the local community, not seven states away."
