Izan Almansa Signs With G League Ignite

Jun 26, 2023 8:56 AM

Spanish big man Izan Almansa has signed with G League Ignite for the upcoming season. Almansa is a potential lottery pick at the 2024 NBA Draft.

For the last two years, Almansa has played with Overtime Elite. He'll now switch to G League Ignite to get ready for the 2024 Draft.

"This is the best step to take now to improve my game, play against grown men and also work on my body," Almansa said.

The 6-foot-10 big man won MVP at the FIBA U17 World Cup and the FIBA U18 European World Championship. He came to the United States two years ago with hopes of improving his game, and he feels he's done that.

"My game has improved in a lot of ways in the U.S.; my shooting, physicality and also seeing how the people see the game here, everybody is trying to get to the same place so is super competitive," Almansa said. "I decided to continue my development in the U.S. because I want to play here for the next years so I think that being in this environment is going to help me more."

Jun 24, 2023 5:57 PM

Keyontae Johnson will sign a two-way contract with the Okalahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma City Blue of the G League, per Thunder front office executive Sam Presti. The Thunder drafted Johnson with the 50th pick of the 2023 NBA Draft.

Johnson averaged 17.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for Kansas State last season. In his lone season with the Wildcats, Johnson started in 36 games and averaged 34.1 minutes per game.

It was unclear if Johnson would ever play again, after suffering a cardiac issue during his junior season with the Florida Gators. Johnson played in a ceremonial game with the Gators as a senior. Following his time at Florida, Johnson was cleared to play again and transferred to Kansas State for his senior season.
