Derrick Rose received a concrete offer from a team in Croatia, but he will not be playing for the team unless the lockout becomes prolonged.
"We reached an economic agreement, but we could not find an agreement about the games," KK Zagreb's Hrvoje Ciketiae said in the interview. "Rose for sponsor obligations would have missed three Euroleague games. And we could not allow that."
The team said it wanted to sign Rose for 22 games.
P.J. Tucker, Casey Jacobsen and Marcus Slaughter led Brose Baskets to a convincing 96-65 win over KK Zagreb in Week 1 of the Euroleague Regular Season on Thursday.
Tucker had 20 points on 11 shots, while Jacobsen and Slaughter each had 16 points.
Sean May had 10 points and nine rebounds for Zagreb.
KK Zagreb has changed head coaches by letting go Ivica Buric and replacing him with Vlado Androic, a former assistant coach with the club.
The dismissal of Buric comes after Zagreb stumbled to a 0-2 start in the Adriatic League, including a 28-point opening-game home loss to fellow Euroleague team Partizan Belgrade.
The groups for the 11-12 Euroleague Regular Season have been announced.
