Andres Nocioni Could Revisit Interest For NBA Comeback

Apr 25, 2014 12:45 AM

Andres Nocioni received interest from several NBA teams last summer and said he could revisit a possible return.

Nocioni averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in eight NBA seasons, most notably with the Chicago Bulls and the last of which in 2011-12 with the Philadelphia 76ers. He has since played overseas.

"Europe is a great, great place to play basketball," Nocioni said. "I came back here because I sat on the bench a lot in Philly and that was frustrating for me because all my life I have played. But my situation has changed a little bit. I don't need to play as many minutes. I'm too old.

"So maybe I go to the NBA and try to enjoy a good organization and try to help young guys and the team to win games. I think about playing more like a veteran helping with fewer minutes and more experience. But I have no decision now. I'm not thinking long-term."

Jazz Considering Ettore Messina For Head Coaching Job

Apr 22, 2014 2:59 PM

Ettore Messina has emerged as a strong candidate to become the next head coach of the Utah Jazz.

Messina is currently head coach at CSKA and spent one season as an assistant for Mike Brown with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Jazz announced on Monday that they would not renew the contract of Ty Corbin.

Jim Boylen is also a candidate, but his rough stint at the University of Utah could make selling his hire on the local fans difficult.

Mouhammadou Jaiteh Decides Not To Enter NBA Draft

Apr 21, 2014 11:58 PM

After intending to declare for the NBA, French center Mouhammadou Jaiteh won’t formally enter his name in the June Draft, a source told RealGM.

Jaiteh had been gauging feedback from the NBA, and the 6-foot-10 prospect ultimately decided to forgo the draft. Jaiteh will likely re-sign in France’s ProA league to continue his development.

RealGM reported on March 25 that Jaiteh would declare for the draft. The 19-year-old also entered the draft process a year ago before pulling out in the weeks before the 60 selections.

Jaiteh averaged 5.4 points and 3.9 rebounds with JSF Nanterre this season.

Ricky Hickman Named Euroleague MVP For Playoffs Game 1

Apr 17, 2014 7:09 PM

Ricky Hickman of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv was named MVP for Playoffs Game 1 with a performance index rating of 36 in his come-from-behind, overtime 101-99 road win against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan.

Hickman had a near-perfect shooting night, hitting 3-of-3 three-point shots and all of his nine free throw tries on the way to 26 points. He scored 14 of those points in the game's last 7 minutes; the final 2 minutes of the fourth quarter - when Maccabi erased an 84-72 deficit - and overtime. He added four rebounds, a steal, three assists and 10 fouls drawn.

With the highest index rating of Game 1, Hickman earned the second weekly MVP honor of his career, after having done so in last season's Top 16 Round 3.

Dario Saric To Declare For NBA Draft, Could Still Withdraw

Apr 16, 2014 2:43 PM

Dario Saric will declare for the 2014 NBA Draft, though it is uncertain if he will remain beyond the withdrawal deadline.

"Dario will declare for the 2014 draft in the next seven days for sure, what's a logical step after the best season in his career," said his new agent Misko Raznatovic. "He was voted the best young player in Europe by FIBA, as well as MVP of the Adriatic League."

Raznatovic was asked if he'll keep his name in the draft.

"It is very difficult to say at this moment. His target is to be in the top 10 picks of the draft this year, maybe it would be acceptable to be a lottery pick. If we have a clear situation for getting where we would like him to be drafted, then for sure he will keep his name in."

Saric is unlikely to join the NBA immediately.

"Dario's ultimate dream is to be a NBA All-Star and he absolutely does not accept anything less than that. At this moment he believes that is better to stay in Europe for a season or two, to get a taste of the Euroleague, and then to enter the NBA when he has more experience. He believes that it will be a shortcut for making his dream. But he did not make a final decision about that, and I will not absolutely exclude that option as well. He just wants to make a proper step and be in a place where he will be able to develop and play."

Amar'e Stoudemire Open To Possibility Of Playing For Israeli Club Once NBA Deal Ends

Apr 15, 2014 1:47 PM

Amar'e Stoudemire says he is open to the possibility of leaving the NBA when his contract ends after next season in order to play for Hapoel Jerusalem, the Israeli club he partially owns.

“We’ll see,’’ Stoudemire said. “You can’t rule anything out. The future is unknown and so if I have an opportunity to [play in Israel] and am still in great health, it would be great. I have one more year left on my deal and we’ll go from there.’’

Ori Allon, head of Hapoel's ownership group, has discussed the chance with Stoudemire before.

“We’ve discussed it in the past,’’ Allon said. “It would be tremendous and unbelievable but it’s still early. I think it’s a real possibility, but he played very well this season so it’s up to him.’’
