Spencer Dinwiddie Hopes To Return To Game Action If Nets Reach Finals

Jun 12, 2021 1:54 PM

Spencer Dinwiddie plans to return to the Brooklyn Nets from his Los Angeles-based rehab "sooner than later." Dinwiddie is eying a return to play if the Nets reach The Finals.

Dinwiddie suffered a partially torn ACL in December.

“He’s going to be in Brooklyn to support his team,” the source said. “He definitely is.”

Dinwiddie is back to on-court work with noted NBA trainer Olin Simplis, who has trained him throughout his career. Dinwiddie fully tore the ACL, lateral meniscus and MCL and partially tore the medial meniscus in his left knee in a non-contact injury in college at Colorado, then recovered and worked his way into becoming an All-Star caliber player in six NBA seasons.

Steve Nash has been bearish on the possibility of Dinwiddie returning.

Nash said on June 6 that he’s had no conversations with Dinwiddie about returning to the team, and on May 4, the coach was not high on the backup guard’s odds of returning for the playoffs.

“I don’t think so. We haven’t seen him since the turn of the year almost,” Nash said. “It’s very difficult to, one, expose him to full NBA playoff basketball with the type of injury he has. We want to look out for his long-term health, first and foremost. And second of all, adapting back to the team environment. All those things together, it seems like it’s probably very unlikely. But who knows? Stranger things have happened.”

Dinwiddie will be a free agent this offseason as he is expected to decline his $12.3 million player option.

Cavaliers Interested In Alex Caruso, T.J. McConnell

Jun 12, 2021 8:35 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be on the market for a backup point guard this offseason with Alex Caruso and T.J. McConnell near the top of their list.

"Both fit really well. Some prefer Caruso. He’s younger, bigger, stronger and can guard multiple spots. Others like McConnell more," writes Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The Cavaliers plan to be aggressive with their mid-level exception this offseason after not using it in 2020.

Kevin Love, Cavaliers Have Yet To Discuss Buyout

Jun 12, 2021 8:28 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Kevin Love have yet to engage on a buyout.

Love would likely have to initiate those talks with the Cavaliers while also giving up some salary to get the franchise to seriously consider it.

Love's contract runs for two more seasons with his trade value presumably increasing as 2023 gets closer if he can establish himself as healthy and productive.
