Celtics Still Looking At Shaq, Kwame Brown

Jul 30, 2010 4:37 PM

The Celtics are still looking for a big man and have both Shaquille O'Neal and Kwame Brown on their radar.

Despite signing Jermaine O'Neal, Boston is still looking for one more interior player to round out their roster.

However, the Celtics only have money left for a minimum contract, something even Brown may not agree to play for.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that O'Neal is still hoping to work a sign-and-trade from Cleveland in order to land a higher salary with a contender.

Rivers Will Take Coaching Future Year-By-Year

Jul 27, 2010 3:37 PM

Celtics coach Doc Rivers nearly decided against returning to the team to fulfill the final year of his contract after Boston's loss to Los Angeles in the NBA Finals.

Rivers said he wasn't going to return unless free agents Paul Pierce and Ray Allen did as well.

"I wasn't coming back unless they were coming back," he said. "I was first and I thought that was important for them. We all talked. I can tell you that. I made sure. I knew they had to do their business. And Ray scared me a little bit with the money out there. They had said they were coming back and then you see what everyone was getting."

Pierce and Allen signed multi-year deals to return to Boston, but Rivers is content to coach in 2010-11 without a contract past then.

"I'm just doing it year to year," Rivers said. "Danny [Ainge] was great. [Co-owner] Wyc [Grousbeck] offered a long-term deal but I didn't think it was fair to them. I didn't want to walk out of a contract."

Rivers said he loves the game so much that when he stops he's not going to call it a retirement.

"If I go away, it's for a year or two," Rivers said. "I love this game. Teachers take sabbaticals and come back refreshed. You need to do that. It was great for me."

Boston Has Discussed Bringing Back House

Jul 27, 2010 7:53 AM

The Celtics have had discussions about bringing Eddie House back to Boston.

They traded House to the Knicks last February for guard Nate Robinson, who they have already re-signed.

"It's something [Celtics president] Danny [Ainge] and I have discussed," House's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said. "But nothing's imminent."

Boston can only offer House the veteran's minimum, which is worth about $1.35 million this coming season.

Rondo Fears Lakers Over Heat

Jul 25, 2010 10:30 AM

Rajon Rondo doesn't agree with those that are already expecting the Heat to win the 2011 NBA championship.

"They should be good, but they ain't done nothing yet," Rondo said recently. "They ain't done nothing.

"What is there to be nervous for?" he said. "I'm worried about L.A. That's the team we need to beat. Miami looks really good on paper, and I'm sure they're going to be really good. But they still have to come together as a team. I'm not saying they won't, but who knows if those guys can jell?

"Our biggest opponent each night is ourselves ? that's how I look at it. Not to be cocky or anything, but that's how we honestly feel. We are the defending [Eastern] champs. Once the first game of the regular season starts, that's irrelevant. But we are going to go into training camp looking to get back to the Finals and win it."

Rondo says it will all depend on how quickly Miami's three superstars are able to gel.

"It depends on those three guys [James, Wade and Bosh] in particular, how they accept their roles," Rondo said. "Things aren't going to go each guy's particular way. It's going to be about how they handle it as gentlemen."

Jul 25, 2010 10:15 AM

The Celtics selected Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody in the second round of last month's NBA Draft and it appears as though he'll make their roster.
