Aggressively Called Out By Riley, Ainge Maintains LeBron Shouldn't Complain

Mar 31, 2013 2:25 PM

After Pat Riley released in a statement that Danny Ainge "should shut the f--- up and manage his own team," Ainge maintained that LeBron James should not complain about the way he is being officiated.

Ainge had told a Boston radio station that James should be "embarrassed" for complaining about officiating.

"What did I say?" Ainge said. "I would say we're both right. LeBron should stop complaining. I complained as a player and I should manage my own team. We're both right."

Through a team spokesperson, Riley said: "He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing and I know that because I coached against him."

The Celtics will play the Miami Heat one more time in the regular season -- a road game on April 12.

Ainge Expects Two Weeks To Be Sufficient For KG

Mar 29, 2013 10:39 AM

Kevin Garnett is still dealing with the inflammation in his left foot that has caused him to miss the past three games, but Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge believes that the original estimated two-week absence should be "more than sufficient time" for the injury to heal.

"It's much better today than it was yesterday and I think he just could use some rest," Ainge said. "On top of that, KG has just little nicks, bumps and bruises that could use some healing time. He's got a sore calf muscle as well. It's just good for him to take some time off and get fresh. But the biggest concern right now is the inflammation in his foot."

Ainge said he was unsure if Garnett could play right now if he had to, emphasizing rest is the best thing at this time.

"What we're doing is we're doing what we think is best for KG's long-term health, and what's best for the team," Ainge said. "Usually it goes hand-in-hand, what's best for the player, and his future, is usually what's best for the team as well. But I don't know if KG could play tonight if tonight was a Game 7 of the NBA Finals. My guess is he probably could. But I don't know how good he would be. He does have a little bit of a limp, but it doesn't matter. Right now, it's best for him not to play on it and aggravate it."

Avery Bradley Remains Confident Despite Shooting Slump

Mar 28, 2013 5:01 PM

Avery Bradley has struggled offensively over his last 12 games.

The Boston Celtics guard is shooting 32.2% (39-for-121) over the stretch. He has missed both easy and difficult shots.

"I've just got to stay confident," Bradley said. "Sometimes I forget that I had surgery [on both shoulders].

"And I always think that everything will be perfect all the time. Obviously I'm going through a slump right now. I've just got to stick with it."

Bradley missed eight of his first 11 shots in a loss to the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. After that game, Doc Rivers said that Bradley was "clearly going through something" and that "I'm probably going to have to do something to get him going more, not less."

Celtics Nearly Signed Kenyon Martin

Mar 27, 2013 11:04 AM

The Boston Celtics nearly signed Kenyon Martin earlier this season.

"It was real close," Martin said. "Like, the deal was almost done. From what I understood, Doc [Rivers] wanted me and the players wanted me, but in the 11th hour …"

The Celtics reportedly prioritized backcourt depth over Martin.

"They didn't pull the trigger," Martin said. "And I'm not talking a few days ago or even a few weeks ago. This was a couple of months ago."

Martin signed with the Knicks last month after sitting out all season.

"So now I'm here and I'm going to make them pay -- I'm going to make all the teams that passed on me pay," Martin said.

Kevin Garnett Estimated To Miss Two Weeks With Inflamed Ankle

Mar 25, 2013 1:56 PM

Kevin Garnett has inflammation in his left ankle and is estimated to miss two weeks to rest, Danny Ainge said.

Ainge downplayed the severity of the injury but made it clear that the Boston Celtics will be cautious with Garnett.

"I'll guess two weeks, just because we want to make sure he's really ready," Ainge said of Garnett's recovery timeline.

"A lot of things can cause inflammation; I think everyone has a little bit of inflammation this time of year. KG, we need to get him fresh anyway."

Ainge believes that Garnett suffered the inflamed ankle last Wednesday against the New Orleans Hornets and worsened the condition when he played two nights later in Dallas.

Garnett is averaging 14.9 points and 7.8 rebounds this season.

Ainge: Celtics Put Little Stock In NCAA Tournament

Mar 22, 2013 12:18 PM

Danny Ainge said the Boston Celtics give little credence to how players perform in the NCAA tournament.

“What the public knows and what the NBA people know is a lot different,” Ainge said. “We don’t put a whole lot on a bad performance or a great performance. We try to analyze why they played well. Was it a great matchup or were they double-teaming a guy to take him out?

“I remember Mark Price slipped in the draft after a game against Georgetown. They really did a number on him. He had a terrible game, and he slipped a little bit, but I think generally speaking there’s not a lot of stock put into what they do in the NCAA tournament.”

The Celtics dealt their second-round selection in this year’s draft in the sign-and-trade deal that brought Courtney Lee over from Houston.

Jason Terry Wants To Prove Mavericks Should Have Kept Him

Mar 22, 2013 10:37 AM

Jason Terry will return to Dallas on Friday when his Boston Celtics face the Mavericks, and he made clear he'll play with an edge to prove the fans and his former team that they should have re-signed him last offseason.

“It’s cool, had to come sooner or later," Terry said. "We’re going to go back there and I’m going to be super-aggressive. We’ll see what happens.”

Terry's former teammates believe the guard will receive a loud ovation on Friday.

Terry played a key role on the Mavericks' championship team in 2011.

Shavlik Randolph To Sign With Celtics For Rest Of Season

Mar 20, 2013 4:18 PM

Shavlik Randolph will sign with the Boston Celtics for the rest of the season with a team option on his contract for next season, a league source told RealGM.

With Randolph’s second 10-day contract expiring on Wednesday night, the Celtics decided to keep the 6-foot-10 forward to maintain their frontcourt depth and continuity in the locker room.

Randolph has played in three of the Celtics’ last four games, posting a combined 10 points, 12 rebounds and two steals in two matchups against the Charlotte Bobcats last week.

After a dominant run in China, Randolph, 29, signed his first 10-day deal with the Celtics on March 1 and a second on March 11.

The Celtics also kept D.J. White for the remainder of the season on Wednesday.
