Stevens Will Let Celtics' Roster Dictate Style Of Play

Aug 30, 2013 9:46 PM

Brad Stevens will adjust his system to the strengths of his players, instead of insisting that players fit the system.

"I don't think style of play is defined by coaches,” Stevens said. “I think it's defined by who the players are. You try to fit with your players to the best of their abilities at both ends of the floor, while at the same time provide a framework for which we can all work together.

"What I would like to do and what I see as a really positive thing with this group, is playing in transition with a lot of spacing. We have bigs that can really shoot the basketball. We have guards that are very athletic that can get into the paint.  We got a couple of wings that can run the floor and do things in transition that are really high level. And then we got guys that can score off spacing, that can score off cutting and score off the bounce."

The Celtics finished near the league average in pace in 2012-13 with 91.7 possessions per game.

Avery Bradley Bulks Up To Stay Durable Next Season

Aug 27, 2013 5:28 PM

Avery Bradley has looked fit and says he is up to 196 pounds, the most he has ever weighed, with the hopes of lasting through a full season without wearing down.

"I feel a lot stronger, sometimes even when I’m walking down the street in Boston people will say, 'You look a lot bigger now.' And I laugh," Bradley said. "I’ve been eating a lot different, I’ve been lifting every single day, I weigh the most I ever weighed -- like 196, that's a lot for me and I’m hoping I can stay like 188 throughout the season. I feel a lot better.

"Towards the end of the season, my body was kinda breaking down on me. I was getting a little sick and stuff, so I wasn’t eating. But I feel a lot better now."

Bradley is entering a major season for his development as a core piece on the Boston Celtics.

"I can’t wait until the season starts," Bradley said. "I’ve been in the gym every single day, trying to get better, now that I can. I’m just excited, I can’t wait for the first preseason game, I can’t wait for training camp."

MarShon Brooks' Final Season With Nets Was 'Difficult'

Aug 22, 2013 4:59 PM

MarShon Brooks knows minutes will not be guaranteed for him with the Boston Celtics, but he looks forward to competing for his position after a season in which he was mostly out of the Brooklyn Nets' rotation.

"It was difficult last year, just not knowing when you’re going into the game, and things like that," said Brooks. "Play two games, not play the next two games; have a good game, not play after that -- it was difficult. But I think it made me stronger. I continued to work, I watched Joe Johnson real closely, and had the opportunity to practice against him, I think I’m ready to play."

"I'm just excited. I feel the same exact way [as at July's introductions], just excited for the opportunity to get out there and show my talents and compete for a position."

Brooks was selected by the Celtics in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft and has averaged 8.5 points in two seasons.

Rondo Has Let Pierce Know He's Ready To Lead Celtics

Aug 18, 2013 5:06 PM

Paul Pierce has talked to Rajon Rondo and has come away with the impression the Boston Celtics' guard is ready to be the face of the franchise.

“Without question [he can be the man in Boston],” Pierce said. “I’ve already talked to Rajon; Rajon’s mature. People talk about the relationship with Doc [Rivers], and they probably had their best years over the last two years. So I don’t think that was a reason for Doc leaving. I’ve heard that, but that wasn’t a reason for Doc not coming back. Rondo is one of the best players in the league. He’s a guy who can be the face of a franchise. He’s won a championship, he’s been an All-Star. There’s a lot of organizations who don’t even have a face of that caliber.

“I definitely think he’s matured and can handle a lot. I talked to him and he’s ready for the challenge. He knows that it’s his team. He knows he has to be a leader, and from being around me and Kevin [Garnett] and seeing how we work.”

With Pierce and Garnett gone, Rondo will take on much of the responsibility of keeping the Celtics respectable.

Source: Celtics Never Seriously Considered Trading Rondo

The Boston Celtics never seriously entertained moving Rajon Rondo, according to a source.

Detroit was reportedly interested in trading for Rondo, but talks were “overblown,” according to the source.
