Cavs, Celtics Have Been In Talks On Three-Team Trade Scenarios

Dec 24, 2014 1:45 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have recently been in contact with the Boston Celtics about their interest in facilitating a three-team trade.

The Cavaliers are seeking frontcourt depth and have specifically targeted Timofey Mozgov and Kosta Koufos.

The Celtics are aggressively pursuing future draft picks.

The Cavs cannot trade their own 2015 first-round pick because they already sent their 2016 pick to the Celtics in a previous deal. But they do own a protected Memphis first-rounder that they could trade.

The Cavs also posses a $5.2 million trade exception to use in a potential deal, which is one of the reasons they sought Mozgov and Koufos, as both of their contracts could fit into that exception.

Brad Stevens Committed To Celtics Amid Speculation Of Interest From Indiana University

Dec 22, 2014 1:33 AM

Brad Stevens made it clear that he is committed to his job as the head coach of the Boston Celtics, even as fans of the Indiana University Hoosiers speculate about Stevens returning home.

"I’ve committed to being here," Stevens said. "I’ve already left a situation once and that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to choose to do. This is something that as long as they want me to be here, this is what I want to be doing and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I know it’s all specific to the rumor mills and the discussion of one spot. I think they’ve got a good coach who’s done a helluva job. He doesn’t deserve that speculation.

"I’m the head coach of the Boston Celtics. This is the job. This is where I am. This is what I want to do really well and I’m committed to being as good as I can every single day for the Celtics."

Stevens is in his second season as the Celtics' coach and has gained respect in the league.

Said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich: "He was a hell of a coach before he got here and he’ll be an even better coach as time goes on. He’s a special guy, that’s why Danny Ainge went and got him."

"I think Brad Stevens is an awesome coach," Kevin Love said. "They’re going to be able to figure it out as they accumulate more talent and like I said, I’m a big fan of Brad Stevens."

Jameer Nelson, Celtics Have Initial Dialogue On Future Possibilities

Dec 20, 2014 5:08 PM

The Boston Celtics and guard Jameer Nelson have had preliminary discussions on his future role and "what if" possibilities before the February trade deadline, but buyout negotiations have not taken place yet, league sources told RealGM.

Nelson signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks last offseason, persuaded by the organization’s culture and an opportunity to start and compete for a Western Conference contender. Still, Dallas had scoured the market for an upgrade at point guard this season and acquired Rajon Rondo, ending Nelson’s brief tenure and sending him to a likely draft lottery team.

At 32, Nelson has cherished a role on a competing NBA team, but has now embraced his position with the Celtics. Over 11 seasons, Nelson is well-regarded as a professional and locker room voice.

Nelson spent his first 10 pro seasons with the Orlando Magic and started in his 23 games for Dallas. He’s averaged 12.4 points and 5.3 assists in his NBA career.

Rajon Rondo 'Open' To Re-Signing With Mavs, Rockets

Dec 18, 2014 11:21 AM

Rajon Rondo is open to re-signing with either the Dallas Mavericks or Houston Rockets should he be traded to one of those two teams, according to a source.

Given Rondo's looming unrestricted free agency, any deal would have to come with assurances that he'd be willing to re-sign with his new team.

Rondo is not actively seeking a trade from the Boston Celtics.

The Rockets will use their $8.4 million trade exception from the Jeremy Lin trade with the Lakers this past summer to acquire a player before Dec. 19 -- the deadline for acquiring players who can be dealt again on Feb. 19 under league rules.
