Amir Johnson Expected To Receive Interest From Bulls, Raptors, Nets

Jun 30, 2017 6:55 PM

The Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets are expected to pursue Amir Johnson.

Johnson is coming off a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics.

Before joining the Celtics, Johnson played six seasons with the Raptors.

Johnson has always been a productive per minute player during his career.

Fourth Mystery Team Could Schedule Last Minute Meeting With Gordon Hayward

Jun 30, 2017 11:25 AM

While the Utah Jazz, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat are the three teams with meetings scheduled with Gordon Hayward in free agency, a fourth team could get involved as well.

"It wouldn't shock me if a secret fourth team scheduled a last-minute meeting with him, either," writes Zach Lowe.

While Lowe doesn't suggest any potential candidates to be that fourth secret team, the Philadelphia 76ers, San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets are three teams that would fit logically and either have enough cap space or could create enough.

The Spurs have pursued trade scenarios this offseason involving both Danny Green and LaMarcus Aldridge.

Celtics Have Yet To Offer Brown, Tatum, Or Either Brooklyn, LAL/SAC FRP To Pacers

Jun 30, 2017 11:11 AM

While discussing a trade with the Indiana Pacers for Paul George, the Boston Celtics have not yet included Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Brooklyn's 2018 first round pick or the 2018 Lakers' pick/2019 Kings pick in their offers.

Boston is reluctant to trade for George knowing he could be a one-year rental.

Indiana is reportedly seeking both the Brooklyn and Lakers/Kings pick from the Celtics for George, as well as starting player(s). Some combination of Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley will likely be offered.

The Celtics have become famously reluctant to trade away any of their best assets and Danny Ainge has even suggested their impressive asset depth has caused teams to unfairly ask them for too much in trade discussions.

Celtics Tender Qualifying Offer To Kelly Olynyk

Jun 29, 2017 8:24 PM

The Boston Celtics have tendered the qualifying offer to Kelly Olynyk.

If the Celtics are to sign a max free agent, they will almost certainly need to rescind the qualifying offer to Olynyk to allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Olynyk was part of Boston's recruiting contingent last offseason.

Pacers Asking Celtics For Both Nets, Lakers 2018 FRP, Starting Player(s)

Jun 29, 2017 12:56 PM

The Boston Celtics consider the Indiana Pacers' most recent trade demand for Paul George to be unrealistic.

The Celtics are reportedly interested in trading for George if they are able to sign Gordon Hayward in free agency.

Kevin Pritchard is asking the Celtics for the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first round pick as well as the Los Angeles Lakers' 2018 first round pick, plus starting player(s).

George can be a free agent in 2018 and is not certain to re-sign with the Celtics as he's signaled a preference to play for the Lakers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers are also interested in trading for George this offseason.

Paul George Willing To Commit Long-Term To Cavs If LeBron Stays

Jun 28, 2017 1:19 PM

Paul George is open to re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers if he's traded there this offseason and LeBron James chooses to remain there next summer.

While George has preferred to end up with the Los Angeles Lakers, he is prudent enough to not leave an opportunity to compete for a title with the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers are attempting to come up with a three-way trade scenario involving Kevin Love that results in a trade for George.

George also feels the same way if he's traded to the Boston Celtics or San Antonio Spurs.

The Lakers have limited assets to trade to the Indiana Pacers for George even with the commitment that he'll re-sign.

Celtics Have Increasing Confidence In Paul George Extension

Jun 27, 2017 2:30 PM

The Boston Celtics have an increasing level of confidence in their ability to sign Paul George to a contract extension.

George has been believed to prefer to join the Los Angeles Lakers either via trade or in the offseason of 2018.

The Celtics' belief they can turn George into more than a one-year rental has them increasingly willing to part with significant assets to the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers could allow George to speak to potential suitors about a contract extension, though that permission has yet to be granted.

Celtics Hoping To Acquire Paul George, Free Agent Star In Complicated Sequence

Jun 27, 2017 2:24 PM

The Boston Celtics are seeking a commitment from Gordon Hayward before they can finalize a trade for Paul George.

The Pacers may be unwilling to wait until the start of free agency to agree upon a trade and could look elsewhere with their George trade talks.

The Celtics will need to maneuver their roster and unload salaries but they have contingencies in place.

If Boston can't secure a deal with Hayward, they could instead sign Blake Griffin and then trade for George.

Paul George's R&E Would Be $94M Over Three Years, Expires When Eligible For 35 Percent Max

Jun 23, 2017 9:45 PM

In following up on a report that the Boston Celtics could do an extend-and-trade agreement with Paul George and the Indiana Pacers if they manage to sign Gordon Hayward in free agency, Albert Nahmad explained why the scenario makes financial sense.

Under that scenario, George would increase his 17-18 salary from $19.5 million to the $29.7 million maximum and then extend for two additional years, which would mean $94 million over three years.

If George were to wait for six months after the trade, he could extend for four years at $169 million. But Boston would be required to keep the cap space necessary to increase George's salary to the max, which is $10.2 million.

On the renegotiation and extension deal, George would add $74 million over just two seasons and he would be instantly eligible for a 10-year veteran max at 35 percent in the 2020 offseason when he will have turned 30 that May.

While George has preferred to join the Los Angeles Lakers, he can compete for a title with the Celtics while having a financial incentive in both the short-term and long-term. If the Lakers don't trade for George, they can only offer him a four-year deal in 2018 with five percent raises.
