Spencer Dinwiddie To Have Thumb Surgery, Out 3-6 Weeks

Spencer Dinwiddie will have surgery to repair ligaments in his right thumb on Monday. He is expected to be out for 3-6 weeks.

Dinwiddie, who recently signed a 3-year, $34.5 million extension with the Nets, is averaging 17.2 points and 5.0 assists on the season.

Shabazz Napier will slot into Dinwiddie's role.

Dinwiddie will see other specialists before making a decision. 

If surgery is required on his thumb, Dinwiddie would be out an estimated 4-6 weeks.

D'Angelo Russell and James Harden have been named the NBA's Players of the Week for Week 14 (Jan. 14-20).

Russell averaged 28.0 points and 7.0 assists as the Nets went 3-0.

Harden averaged 54.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists as the Rockets went 2-1.

Kenneth Faried has agreed to a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets.

The 29-year-old Faried is expected to join the Rockets once he clears waivers on Monday.

The Rockets have until then to make room for Faried's roster spot. With Clint Capela's injury, Faried will step into the lineup immediately and play significant minutes.

Alan Williams Signs Two-Way Deal With Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have signed forward/center Alan Williams to a two-way contract. 

Williams originally signed a two-way contract with Brooklyn on Sept. 24 and was waived on Jan. 2.

Williams had planned to sign in China.

In 17 games for Brooklyn’s NBA G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Williams has recorded season averages of 21.0 points and 14.7 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per contest. He has yet to appear in a game for Brooklyn.

In 62 games over three seasons (2015-18) with the Phoenix Suns, Williams holds career NBA averages of 6.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per game while shooting 50.2 percent (155-of-309) from the field.

Lakers, Nets To Play Two Preseason Games In China Next Season

The Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers will play back-to-back preseason games in China in 2019. The October 10th game will take place in Shanghai, with the October 12th rematch in Shenzhen. 

The trip marks the Nets' third appearance in China (minority owner Joe Tsai is the Executive Vice Chairman of the e-commerce platform Alibaba). This will be the second trip to China for the Lakers, and their first since 2013. 

The preseason games are part of the NBA China Games 2019.

The Brooklyn Nets have requested waivers on forward/center Alan Williams.

Williams, who was signed to a two-way contract on Sept. 24, played in 17 games for Brooklyn’s NBA G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, where he averaged 21.0 points and a league leading 14.7 rebounds in 26.9 minutes per contest. He did not appear in a game for Brooklyn this season.

The Nets roster now stands at 16 players.
