Steve Nash Says 'Familiarity Growing' After Nets Score 147 Points In Win

Jan 30, 2021 12:01 PM

Steve Nash said that the Brooklyn Nets still have a "long way to go" on the defensive end after their 147-125 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 147 points tied the franchise record for most points in a regulation game.

The Nets were without Kevin Durant, who rested for the game.

"There's a familiarity growing, on both ends of the floor. [But] we've got a long way to go defensively. It's not our forte or strong suit, but we've got to be clean with our game plan and talking and participating in our actions," said Nash.

The Nets have scored at least 110 points in 10 out of their last 11 games, and are 6-2 since trading for James Harden.

Harden agreed with Nash in focusing on the defensive side of the ball.

"We're catching a rhythm, obviously, offensively. But defensively as well. We're learning our strengths and our weakness and things we can get better at," said Harden.

Nets Sign Norvel Pelle

Jan 28, 2021 3:04 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have signed free agent center Norvel Pelle.

Pelle (6’10”, 231) spent the 2019-20 season with the Philadelphia 76ers, originally signing a two-way contract with the team on July 2, 2019, before having his contract converted to a standard deal on Feb. 7, 2020. In 24 games off the bench, Pelle recorded averages of 2.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 9.7 minutes per game. He registered multiple blocks in 11 of the 24 games he saw action in, including a season-high four blocks on Nov. 29, 2019, at New York. He also appeared in one playoff game for the Sixers in their first round playoff series against Boston.

Prior to his NBA career, the 27-year-old played professionally for six years (2013-19), competing overseas in Italy, Lebanon and Taiwan and in the NBA G League in four stints with the Delaware Blue Coats.

Kevin Durant Says James Harden Finding 'Balance' Between Passing, Scoring

Jan 26, 2021 1:18 AM

James Harden said that he was still getting used to playing alongside Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant after dominating the ball during his time with the Houston Rockets.

"I was in a role for eight years, controlling the ball, dominating the ball. Now it's a different experience for me, but it's still great," said Harden following the Nets' 98-85 win over the Heat.

Harden finished the game with 20 points and 8 assists, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Durant, who added 20 points and 13 rebounds, said that Harden is still finding the right balance between scoring and passing.

"Feels like he just transferred to a new school and he's trying to figure out the curriculum. ... as a scorer and the focal point of your offense, sometimes the balance between score and pass -- you got to figure that out each night."

Nets Interested In JaVale McGee

Jan 25, 2021 3:08 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have interest in trading for JaVale McGee.

The Los Angeles Lakers traded McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers this past offseason.

Brooklyn has two roster spots open currently.

A previous report suggested the Nets could also have interest in Kevin Love, but that is virtually impossible due to Brooklyn's inability to match salary in a trade.

Steve Nash After Two Losses To Cavs: Nets Need To 'Dig Deeper' On Defense

Jan 23, 2021 12:31 PM

Steve Nash said that the Brooklyn Nets need to play harder on defense following two consecutive losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Nets gave up 134 total points in the paint in their two losses to the Cavs, the most allowed in back-to-back games over the last 25 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

"We just need to find a way to play harder. Dig deeper. We are not a defensive roster.

"We have to take more pride, contest more shots, fight, scrap, claw, and that's what I think is missing as much as anything schematic that we're breaking down," said Nash after the game.

Nash added that the team has to look inward for defensive growth as opposed to roster additions.

DeAndre Jordan said that the Nets will learn from the recent losses.

"Rome wasn't built in a day. Championship teams weren't built in a day. They've gone through struggles. So we've got to be able to take this on the chin and learn from it and ultimately come back and respond tomorrow and for the rest of the season."
