Vincent Will Start Brezec At Center For Bobcats

Oct 24, 2007 8:11 AM

Charlotte Bobcats' coach Sam Vincent is penciling in center Primoz Brezec as a starter.

Brezec missed roughly the first two weeks of training camp with a family issue, but the 7-footer played in both the weekend exhibitions against the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. Vincent hopes to use Emeka Okafor primarily at power forward, rather than center, this season.

By going with Brezec, Vincent avoids starting Walter Herrmann (which makes the Bobcats small) and Ryan Hollins (who's inexperienced). However, this is not a concrete decision. Vincent will continue to tinker with his rotation to compensate for losing Sean May and Adam Morrison for the season.

Morrison Likely Out For Year With Torn Ligament

Oct 21, 2007 11:32 PM

Charlotte Bobcats reserve forward Adam Morrison is likely done for the season after an MRI exam on Sunday revealed a torn ligament in his left knee.

The injury occurred with about 5? minutes left in the third quarter of Saturday night's 113-93 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Morrison was attempting to defend Luke Walton on a drive to the basket and crumpled to the floor in severe pain while clutching his left knee.

"Our medical staff has had a chance to review the MRI, and they're saying right now they believe there is some sort of tear," coach Sam Vincent said Sunday, about an hour before the Bobcats took on Phoenix in the second day of the annual Staples Center shootout.

"Until they get in there and do whatever they do, who knows? But they are saying there's a good chance he will be out for the year. So I'm not counting on him playing," Vincent added.

Bobcats' Morrison To Have MRI On Knee

Oct 21, 2007 3:38 AM

Adam Morrison is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left knee on Sunday, according to The Charlotte Observer.

The Bobcats were trailing the Lakers 77-61 when Morrison attempted to defend Luke Walton on a drive to the basket and crumpled to the floor in severe pain while clutching his knee.

Morrison, who averaged 11.8 points in 78 games last season after being taken third overall in the 2006 draft, was helped to the dressing room with 5:23 left in the third quarter and did not return.

Shaq Injured In Heat's Preseason Loss To Bobcats

Oct 14, 2007 4:08 AM

Heat center Shaquille O'Neal left in the first quarter of the Heat's 92-76 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats, shortly after he sustained a left quadriceps contusion.

O'Neal immediately grabbed his hip and grimaced after a collision with Bobcats center Emeka Okafor just five minutes into the game.

O'Neal had attempted a hook shot in the lane. Okafor jumped to block the shot, but caught O'Neal with a knee.

O'Neal remained in the game for several minutes before he was replaced. He re-entered late in the first quarter but was noticeably limping and soon came out for good. He stayed in the locker room for the second half as the Heat was blown out for the third time in four games, dropping the team's preseason record to 0-4.

After the game, O'Neal said he didn't believe the injury was serious. He seemed more frustrated that he had another "freak injury" despite his wearing padded protection.

"The crazy thing about it is, I've got pads," O'Neal said. "I've got knee pads. I've got quad pads. I've got shin pads. And the place it's not padded, [Okafor] got me."

Bobcats' Vincent Looking For A Replacement Big Man

Oct 6, 2007 10:02 AM

Even before knee surgery ended Sean May's season Charlotte coach Sam Vincent suggested the team sign another veteran big man, mentioning free agents Michael Ruffin and Marc Jackson as possibilities. Ruffin signed with Milwaukee, but Jackson (most recently a New Orleans Hornet) appears to be available.

Vincent said he spoke with managing partner Michael Jordan, vice president Bernie Bickerstaff and general manager Rod Higgins about the situation. If the regular season started today, Ryan Hollins -- a second-round pick last season -- would start at center.

"Everybody is sensitive to the fact that we're short(handed) in the frontcourt," Vincent said. "They'll do whatever they can to give us some relief, but it may take a little time."

Jordan Back In Hometown For 'Cats' Camp

Oct 6, 2007 1:35 AM

Charlotte Bobcats part-owner Michael Jordan returned to his hometown Friday to get his first glimpse of the team he remade in the offseason.

Jordan arrived to learn he may be shopping for big men after forward Sean May's decision to have season-ending knee surgery.

Jordan, who has the final say on all basketball decisions, watched from the balcony as the Bobcats went through a 45-minute scrimmage at UNC Wilmington under new coach Sam Vincent.

"We had a good conversation. He's very supportive of the way we're practicing," Vincent said. "He likes what he sees. It was real encouraging to have him come and watch what we're doing."

May To Undergo Microfracture Surgery, Done For Season

Oct 5, 2007 6:17 PM

Charlotte Bobcats forward Sean May will miss the season after deciding to undergo microfracture surgery on his troublesome right knee.

May, who saw two knee specialists this week, will have the surgery Tuesday in New York. Recovery time will take six to 12 months.

"Obviously this is a terrible blow for our basketball team and another setback for Sean," Bobcats coach Sam Vincent said Friday. "We want what's best for him, and unfortunately that requires surgery."

May, the 13th pick in the 2005 draft, has played in only 58 of 164 games over the past two seasons. He had surgery to remove cartilage during his rookie season, then developed a bone bruise last year.

He had been undergoing an extensive offseason program, but was still troubled by knee pain. May missed the start of training camp to see knee specialists in New York and Alabama.

Knee Injury Forces Bobcats' May To Miss Opening Of Camp

Oct 2, 2007 5:07 PM

As the Charlotte Bobcats began training camp Tuesday, forward Sean May was in New York seeing a knee specialist.

He is scheduled to see another doctor in Alabama on Wednesday. May's agenda after that is unknown, as his two-year struggle to get healthy seems without end. First-year coach Sam Vincent had no timetable for May's return.

"I think he's getting a second opinion, or maybe a third opinion," Vincent said. "We're hoping at some point he's going to gather up enough information to know exactly what the next step should be."
