Odom To Nets Falls Through

Jul 20, 2007 6:28 AM

According to multiple league sources, the Nets were "very close" to completing a three-team trade that would have landed Lamar Odom from the Lakers while sending Richard Jefferson to the Bobcats. The Lakers, in turn, would have received Gerald Wallace from Charlotte.

"It was very close, but just didn't happen," said one league source.

The three-way talks flourished a few weeks ago, and one source insisted Charlotte part-owner Michael Jordan squashed the deal. Wallace, who shares the same agent, Rob Pelinka, as Kobe Bryant, yesterday re-signed with Charlotte (six years, $57 million) after averaging 18.1 points. Odom averaged 15.9 points and 9.8 rebounds for L.A. while Jefferson averaged 16.3 points. So the Nets' Big Three of Jason Kidd, a re-signed Vince Carter and Jefferson nearly evaporated. Again.

Sources: Bucks Add Depth With Ex-Bobcat Voskuhl

Jul 18, 2007 11:41 PM

Veteran center Jake Voskuhl has reached agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks on a one-year, $3 million contract, ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan is reporting.

The signing was expected to be announced Thursday, when the Bucks were to renounce their rights to at least one of their five free agents in order to clear room to sign Voskuhl. Milwaukee's unrestricted free agents are Ruben Patterson, Brian Skinner, Earl Boykins and Jared Reiner. Also, Ersan Ilyasova (who plans to play in Europe next season) and Charlie Bell are restricted free agents.

Communication Killed KG To GSW Trade On Draft Night?

Jul 17, 2007 1:04 PM

According sources close to Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, the Warriors, Timberwolves and Bobcats had a tentative deal (or deals) in place?some sources lean hard on the tentative part?at some point during the early part of the first round that would?ve:

-Sent Kevin Garnett and Troy Hudson to the Warriors;

-Sent Jason Richardson to Charlotte;

-Sent a whole bunch of stuff to Minnesota, including Al Harrington (probably), Monta Ellis (probably), future picks, and the rights to Al Thornton (selected with Charlotte?s No. 8 overall pick);

-Added in a bunch of other salary-cap fillers here and there to make sure the money worked.

Heading into the start of the draft, Charlotte had a pre-existing agreement with Mullin to select Brandan Wright (or Yi Jianlian, Mike Conley Jr., Corey Brewer, Jeff Green or any of the Obvious Top Three Guys) then trade his rights for Richardson. That?s the absolute confirmed truth.

The mythos says that Charlotte knew the Warriors originally told them to take Wright, and that Charlotte never got word that the deal was being officially altered because of the Garnett addition, so Charlotte? took Wright.

Which, supposedly, killed the Minnesota part of the deal because, supposedly, Minnesota wanted Thornton, period.

Talks Between Wallace And Bobcats Remain Amicable?

Jul 10, 2007 2:54 PM

Bobcats executive vice president Bernie Bickerstaff said talks continue with free agent Gerald Wallace, who recently opted out of his contract.

There's "nothing adversarial" about the negotiations, Bickerstaff said. Published reports indicate Dallas, Miami and Detroit might also be interested in Wallace.

Morrison Knows Its Time To Step Up

Jul 8, 2007 9:08 PM

Charlotte acquired Jason Richardson (and $51 million in salary commitments) last week. This week, the Bobcats and Matt Carroll agreed in principle on a $27 million deal. And those around the Bobcats expect to re-sign Gerald Wallace very soon to a contract worth more than $60 million.

Today, Adam Morrison and the Bobcats complete a week-long minicamp and Morrison is expected to play a game or two next week in the Orlando Summer League.

Morrison says he recognizes the potential for competition for minutes at his position.

?Maybe so,? said Morrison, the No. 3 overall pick of the Bobcats in the 2006 draft. ?It?s hard to say. That?s why they have the upper management and (part-owner) Mike (Jordan) and all those guys do that stuff. So it?s going to definitely be some competition at the wing spot. Wherever I fit in, I?ll try to fit in somewhere and play.?

Richardson Warming To Bobcats After Trade

Jul 5, 2007 7:34 PM

Jason Richardson was so shocked to be traded that he wouldn't talk to anybody -- including his new boss, Michael Jordan.

Once he studied his new Charlotte Bobcats teammates, his perspective changed.

"It wasn't about going to Charlotte as much as it was leaving Golden State," Richardson said Thursday. "After I actually took some time and looked at the team, that changed my mind real quickly."

The Warriors traded Richardson and the rights to second-round pick Jermareo Davidson to Charlotte for the rights to North Carolina forward Brandan Wright.

The Bobcats' preseason goal is to make the playoffs, and part-owner Jordan thinks Richardson may be the player who can lead them there.

"I'm not looking at this as my team -- I'm looking at it as our team," Richardson said. "I think it's going to be a great opportunity for me to be on this team."

Dudley Signs Contract With Bobcats

Jul 4, 2007 11:16 PM

The Bobcats said Wednesday that they had signed first-round pick Jared Dudley to his rookie contract. Under terms of the collective bargaining agreement's rookie scale, Dudley will receive $947,500 next season and $1.018 million in the second year. The Bobcats hold team options for a third and fourth year.

Dudley, the 22nd pick in the draft, averaged 19 points and 8.3 rebounds as a senior at Boston College last season and was named the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year. At 6-foot-7 and 219 pounds, the Bobcats plan to use Dudley at both small forward and power forward.
