Curry Steps Down As Charlotte Assistant

Sep 25, 2007 12:35 PM

Dell Curry stepped down as assistant coach with the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday, three months after accepting the position.

Curry, who has two sons who play basketball, was concerned about the time commitment for the job, a team spokesman said. Curry will work in community relations for the team.

Curry, who spent 10 of his 16 seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, had served as the Bobcats' director of player development. In June, new coach Sam Vincent selected Curry as an assistant.

Vincent has been interviewing candidates to replace Curry. The rest of Vincent's staff includes Phil Ford, Lee Rose, Jeff Capel and Paul Mokeski.

Harrington Could Be Odd Man Out In Charlotte

Sep 23, 2007 5:02 PM

As the Charlotte Bobcats continue to window-shop for another big man, you have to wonder who they'd cut to open a roster spot. Othella Harrington is an option at this point.

If he were healthy, Harrington would be that extra big man coach Sam Vincent needs. But Harrington's left knee hasn't fully healed from last season, complicating the situation entering training camp.

"He really is struggling with some knee and body issues,'' Vincent said. "I anticipate that his body has just gotten to the point where he just can't physically do it anymore. But I'm reserving that (judgment) until I have a chance to see him and spend time with him, because he may come back in and surprise us all.''

Harrington has traditionally been durable -- he appeared in 70 or more games in five of his last seven NBA seasons. But he now has 11 pro seasons on that body and might not have much left.

Pacers One Of Several Teams Interested In Batista

Sep 21, 2007 7:31 PM

Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star spoke with Esteban Batista?s agent, Marc Cornstein, Thursday after the Boston Globe reported the Pacers are one of a handful of teams interested in the forward.

?The Pacers have expressed interest and we?re pretty close to (making) a decision,? Cornstein said.

Charlotte and Phoenix are also reportedly interested in Batista, who averaged 20.8 points and 12.4 rebounds during the FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas. Batista, who would give the Pacers another big body in the front court, obviously likes the international game because he only averaged 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 8.2 minutes in two years with the Atlanta Hawks.

Bobcats Snare Web Address From Montana Breeder

Sep 19, 2007 12:41 AM

The Charlotte Bobcats finally have a simple Web address.

For its first three years, the team used the domain name www.bobcatsbasketball.com because the rights to www.bobcats.com belonged to a bobcat breeder in Montana.

Barbara Roe owns Bitterroot Bobcat and Lynx in Stevensville, Mont., and had the rights to the Web site name for 10 years. She says team officials began asking her in 2004 about buying the rights, but the early offer of a couple thousand dollars wasn't enough. Roe says the team earlier this year met her price of about $50,000.

"It's called business," Roe said. "It's what you do. If you have a business somebody wants, you capitalize on it."

The newly named Web site and an upcoming redesign are part of a marketing campaign that will feature star forward Gerald Wallace and newly acquired Jason Richardson.

Vincent Favors Re-Signing D. Anderson

Sep 14, 2007 11:41 AM

Bobcats' head coach Sam Vincent said he favors re-signing guard Derek Anderson if it makes sense from a salary cap- and roster-management perspective. Anderson could serve as an emergency third point guard. Otherwise, the Bobcats would go to camp counting on two point guards (Raymond Felton and Jeff McInnis), with the option to sign a third point guard out of the developmental league during the season.

Former Bobcat Anderson Expects To Sign With Cavaliers?

Sep 3, 2007 9:19 PM

On Wednesday, former Bobcat Alan Anderson will work out for the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Hoopsworld, where he says has reason to believe he'll get more than just an invite to camp. He's hoping to be playing alongside LeBron James and playing for a championship next season.

"You can't ask for more than that - a team that's always in the playoffs, a team that's right there on their way to winning a championship, and then playing with one of the greatest players in the league - you can't ask for more than that. I'm looking forward to working out for them, I'll do my best, and hopefully they take me."
