Coach Dean Smith has showed up at Bobcats training camp in one of his first public appearances since details emerged that he?s experiencing some memory loss.

The 79-year-old former UNC coach wore a Tar Heel blue jacket and was accompanied by his son Wednesday night. Smith moved slowly but steady around the floor after the workout as players and coaches greeted him.

Smith didn?t speak to reporters, according to an Associated Press report.

Reggie Evans believed he was being traded to Charlotte over the summer in a trade that included Jose Calderon, but he is comfortable remaining with the Raptors as the 10-11 season begins.

?Hey I'm not bitter about it, I?m not bitter at all, it is what it is,? Evans told the Toronto Sun on Tuesday.

?It ain?t like I?m mad, I?m not mad at BC (general manager Bryan Colangelo), it?s a business, I respect the business aspect of it.

?That doesn?t stop me from doing what I?ve got to do on the court or from being professional to my teammates. I?m still going to be like ?what?s up BC?? I don?t really think about it.?

The four-team blockbuster trade that would have landed Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey has died and the Nets have ended their pursuit of the superstar for the time being.

A source said the Nets "need some closure on the matter" and are pulling out of the chase for Anthony "at least for now."

Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor indicated that the time has passed to complete the four-team blockbuster trade discussed last week, which would have landed Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey.

"If you're going to make that trade, it would've been done Friday," O'Connor told the media Monday.

O'Connor said the other teams, not the Jazz, were driving the trade talks which "got ahead of themselves."

Trade talks on the four-team proposal that would land Carmelo Anthony in New Jersey were revisited on Monday.

A source connected to the ongoing trade discussions involving Carmelo Anthony said that there is "better than a 50 percent chance" that a trade will be completed within the next 24-48 hours.

William Wesley met with Jay-Z last week in New York to help set the stage for Anthony's arrival with the Nets, said a person with direct knowledge of the meeting.

While the Nuggets want to talk to Anthony directly, sources familiar with his position think that the team's attempt to change his mind about leaving Denver will be futile.

Any positive comments Anthony may make to the media on Monday are likely to be spin rather than actually indicating an open mind about remaining in Denver.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets are not sure they want to accept Derrick Favors as the centerpiece in a trade of their superstar.

A source close to the trade discussions surrounding Carmelo Anthony reports that the deal is stalled as Denver's media day on Monday approaches.

"The deal is in neutral," the source said. "Denver trying to get [Anthony] there for media day and beg him to stay."

The Nuggets are wavering on accepting a proposed trade for Carmelo Anthony and it could lead to the deal unraveling.

"Good will is fading fast between Denver and everyone else in this deal," writes Sam Amick.  "NJ, Charlotte, and Utah not thrilled with how it's being handled."

Kwame Brown has suffered a severe left ankle sprain that will likely keep him out four to six weeks, the team announced Saturday.

Brown will miss the entire preseason with the Bobcats and possibly the beginning of the regular season.

If Carmelo Anthony agrees to an extension with the Nets, the team will try to acquire D.J. Augustin as part of the four-team deal.

New Jersey will send Devin Harris to the Bobcats as part of the package for Anthony and will therefore have a need at point guard.

Charlotte has been reluctant to include Augustin, but whether or not he is traded is not believed to be a deal-breaker for New Jersey.
