Kemba Walker is ready to emerge as a leader on the court and in the locker room.
“Coach (Mike Dunlap) is really pushing me to be the leader and pushing me to use my voice,” said Walker, who turned 22 in May. “I’m trying to embrace that role.”
Walker praised Charlotte’s decision to select Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the second overall pick of the June draft.
“Very happy, very happy,” Walker said. “He was the next best player in the draft (behind Kentucky teammate Anthony Davis) and we had to take him. Not only that. He’s a great person. He’s a great kid. He’s going to be a great teammate. That’s what we need. We need high character guys.”
Donte Greene fractured his ankle during a workout on Saturday in Charlotte, according to his agent.
Greene was expected to sign with the Brooklyn Nets on a non-guaranteed contract.
MRI results will determine how long Greene will be out with the injury.
The Bobcats announced the additions of Dan Leibovitz and Brian Winters to new head coach Mike Dunlap’s staff.
“It was important to me to put together a coaching staff that mirrors my coaching philosophy and one that will consistently challenge our players to get better each and every time they hit the basketball floor,” Dunlap said in a release from the team. “When I selected my staff I wanted to assemble a group that will care about the players, care about the team and love to teach the game of basketball.”
Leibovitz and Winters will join Stephen Silas and Rick Brunson on the Bobcats’ bench.
Paul Lukas of Uni Watch ranks the uniforms of all 30 NBA teams, with the Celtics coming in first.
"The Rolling Stones, "Goodfellas," a Hershey's with almonds -- the classics are classic for a reason," writes Lukas about the Celtics. "That definitely applies to the Celtics' set. No goofy side panels, no extraneous bells or whistles -- just a perfect, vertically arched wordmark and a simple green-and-white color scheme. They rank atop this list despite sometimes wearing that black-trimmed alternate."
The Spurs, Lakers, Warriors and Jazz comprise the remainder of the top-five.
"The Raiders aren't the only team that knows how to wear silver and black," writes Lukas in regards to the Spurs. "In addition to the killer colors, the Spurs are also among the few NBA teams that have successfully incorporated a graphic image into their chest typography -- a small element that goes a long way."

Anthony Davis is expected to be the 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year by 47.1 percent of his rookie peers.
Damian Lillard finished second in voting at 17.6 percent, while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Thomas Robinson each received 5.9 percent.
The Bobcats will likely add Brian Winters and Dan Leibovitz to their coaching staff, joining current assistants Rick Brunson and Stephen Silas.
Winters, 60, coached the Grizzlies for most of their first two seasons in Vancouver.
Leibovitz was rumored to be joining the Bobcats in a report last week.
Dan Leibovitz could be leaving Penn to take a position as player development coach of the Bobcats, according to a report.
Leibovitz joined Penn as an assistant coach in 2010.
Prior to his time at Penn, Leibovitz served as the top assistant at Temple for 10 seasons.
Lou Amundson has received interest from the Knicks and Bobcats.
Charlotte can offer the $2.5 non tax-payer exception, while New York is limited to the veteran's minimum.
"Glen (Grunwald) and I have talked," Amundson's agent, Mark Bartelstein said. "(Amundson) is the best big man on the market, so there's no reason to be impatient."
Kemba Walker recently returned to UConn after playing at the NBA summer league in Las Vegas.
Walker has participated in workouts with Omar Calhoun, a 6-foot-3, 190 pound guard who is the top rated player in UConn's 2012 recruiting class.
“You can tell that he works very hard and pushes himself,” Walker said in his assessment of Calhoun. “It's all up to him. If he keeps working hard, he can become a lot better."
Walker expects Calhoun to quickly adjust to the physical demands of college basketball.
"Physically, definitely, he's further along," Walker said. "That's huge at the college level.”
