Nic Batum will not need to undergo surgery on the torn ligament in his left elbow.

The Charlotte Hornets announced the injury as needing at least six to eight weeks to recover. 

Batum and the Hornets were optimistic he wouldn't need season-ending surgery.

Nic Batum tore a ligament in his left elbow during Wednesday's preseason game.

Batum will likely miss 8-12 weeks with the injury. Spencer Perry of Queen City Hoops first reported the injury.

Batum will receive additional opinions on whether he needs to undergo surgery.

Batum signed a five-year, $120 million deal to stay with the Hornets in 2016.
