Bulls Likely To Pick Combo Guard At No. 29

Jun 27, 2012 10:31 PM

The Bulls have worked out more than 50 players at the Berto Center during the draft process.

With the 29th overall selection, Chicago is likely to pick a combo guard. Among the candidates are Will Barton, John Jenkins, Doron Lamb and Darius Miller.

Barton worked out a second time for the Bulls on Wednesday.

The Bulls are searching for a player that can help with ballhandling duties while Derrick Rose recovers from knee surgery and also coexist in the backcourt with him upon his return.

Gar Forman Took Unusual, Improbable Path To Become GM

Jun 27, 2012 10:04 AM

Gar Forman took an unlikely path to become general manager of the Chicago Bulls.

Forman grew up outside San Francisco watching the Rick Barry Warriors and struggling for minutes on his high school team. He played at the College of Notre Dame, an NAIA school before becoming a student assistant at Utah State.

By the time he was 23, Forman inherited a junior college job in Palm Springs before becoming an assistant at New Mexico State. Forman found success recruiting junior college players from Chicago.

Forman was eventually hired by then-Iowa State coach Tim Floyd, who was taken under the wing of former GM Jerry Krause. Forman helped Krause with scouting reports of Big 12 players.

When Floyd became head coach of the Bulls, Forman went with him.

‘‘His way is refreshing,’’ Floyd said. ‘‘He’s not pretentious. He’s not an over-talker. He’s genuine about what he’s saying. He’s a great listener, which is a rare trait today. He’s probably got more friends than anybody I know in the business because he doesn’t offend people and he’s great at returning calls.’’

Forman is unlike most other GMs in that he closely follows the media.

‘‘I want to have a sense of the market, of what our fan base is thinking,’’ he said. ‘‘What you have to do is separate noise from what might be important. But . . . we’re always going to make decisions based on what we think is best for this team and organization moving forward, even if it’s not a popular decision. If we stay true to that, we’ll continue to make progress.’’

Bulls, Mavs, Pacers, Wolves In Pursuit Of Brandon Roy

Jun 26, 2012 1:39 AM

Brandon Roy will attempt a comeback to the NBA and his top suitors are the Bulls, Mavericks, Pacers and Wolves, according to sources.

Roy's recovery from chronic knee problems has been recently spurred by undergoing the platelet rich plasma therapy procedure, sources said.

The Golden State Warriors have also expressed strong interest with Roy. The Warriors' general manager, Bob Myers, was Roy's agent with the Wasserman Media Group.

Several teams could be willing to use their full-mid level exception for Roy, sources said.

Indiana could have an advantage in pursuing Roy due to the presence of Kevin Pritchard, who was general manager of the Blazers when he was drafted.

Deng Sees Some Truth Behind Trade Rumors

Jun 24, 2012 5:24 PM

Luol Deng will not be surprised if the Bulls trade him this summer.

"I believe there is always to some extent truth behind rumors," Deng said. "But as an athlete, if you get caught up in them, you are really wasting your time because it's not something you can control.

"If it's not true, a GM could always come out and say it's not true. But if a GM doesn't come out and say it, there are probably talks. And there should be. If I was a GM I would be shopping players around, too.”

Chicago is reportedly disappointed that Deng will play in the Olympics for Great Britain.

"I wouldn't want me to play (in the Olympics) either,” Deng said. “Pax is an athlete and, as an athlete who used to play, Pax understands me wanting to play. But as a GM that's his job to try and get the team healthy and get the team ready for next year. I understand both sides to it.

"But it comes down to an injury that happened at the wrong time. I just try to let people know I'm going to be OK."

Kidd Open To Signing With Bulls, Also Considering Return To Nets

Jun 19, 2012 12:15 AM

Jason Kidd wouldn’t mind spending his remaining years in Chicago.

“I can’t rule out the Bulls,” Kidd said. “They’re a team that competes. They play extremely hard. I could end up there, to try to help win. I wouldn’t rule them out.”

Kidd also is intrigued by the idea of backing up Deron Williams in New Jersey.

"My days of playing 38 minutes are over," said Kidd, adding that he'd be okay with being a backup for the first time in his career. "We (Williams and I) could play off each other and hopefully be successful.

"I'd be fine with starting or not starting, but I want to be able to finish the game. I'm all about winning at this point."

Source: Bulls Open To Trading Deng For Lottery Pick

Jun 18, 2012 10:36 AM

The Bulls are open to making a trade before the draft, notably a deal including Luol Deng, according to a league source.

With roughly $56 million committed to Deng, Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah, Chicago is likely looking to clear cap space because of luxury-tax concerns.

Toronto and Golden State have been mentioned as possible trade partners.
