Younger Bulls' Players Would Like Dwyane Wade To Practice More

Jan 28, 2017 10:56 PM

Younger players on the Chicago Bulls want to see more of Dwyane Wade on the practice floor.

Taj Gibson said the issue came up during Friday's team meeting, which was called in the wake of critical comments made by Wade and Jimmy Butler following Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

"That's one of the things in the meeting: Young guys just want a little bit more from him," Gibson said, noting that Wade practiced Saturday. "And he brung it today. He pushed the young guys. And that's a sign that that meeting did a little something.

"It's all about positive. We're not trying to have any negative aspects, anything like that. We got everybody against us right now. The only people who are going to help us out of this is ourselves. And we understand that. And [executive VP John Paxson] said it in the meeting yesterday, too."

Wade and Butler began Chicago's 100-88 loss to Miami on the bench as punishment for their comments.

Bulls' Role Players Believe Butler, Wade Playing 'Buddy Ball'

Jan 27, 2017 4:03 PM

The Chicago Bulls have had struggles both on and off the court since their strong start to the season.

Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade were critical of the Bulls' younger players this week, which prompted a sharp response from Rajon Rondo on Instagram.

"The Bulls are full of unhappy players," said Wojnarowski. "With the superstars unhappy with the role players and the role players unhappy with the superstars, privately charging them with playing buddy ball, sources say. A two-man game that they believe often intentionally involves no one else."

In their loss to the Atlanta Hawks this week that sparked criticism from Butler and Wade, the pair combined to score 73 points on 46 of the Bulls' 94 shooting possessions.

Jimmy Butler, Dwyane Wade Have No Issue With Rajon Rondo

Jan 27, 2017 1:51 PM

Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade said they have no problem with Rajon Rondo one day after he criticized the Chicago Bulls' "veterans" in an Instagram post.

Rondo made headlines Thursday when he defended the "young guys" on the Bulls while writing, "If anything is questionable, it's the leadership" in a lengthy post on his Instagram account.

"I don't have any problem with Rajon," Butler said after Friday morning's shootaround, which was delayed because of a team meeting. "He spoke his mind. I spoke my mind. Move on."

"Everyone gets opportunities to express themselves," Wade added. "That's how [Rondo] chose to express himself. ... I have no hard feelings."

Gar Forman said that the organization is "extremely disappointed" in players criticizing their teammates to the media and on social media.

"We have visited with the players who spoke out at length and dealt with it internally," said Forman, who did not take questions from reporters. "We've talked about it with the entire team."

Rondo was fined for the comments.

Rajon Rondo: My Vets Would Never Go The Media

Jan 26, 2017 6:16 PM

Rajon Rondo posted a photograph of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen on Instagram along with a lengthy statement seemingly in response to comments made to the media by Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler after Wednesday's loss by the Chicago Bulls.

"My vets would never go to the media," wrote Rondo. "They would come to the team. My vets didn't pick and choose when they wanted to bring it. They brought it every time they stepped in the gym whether it was practice or a game. They didn't take days off. My vets didn't care about their numbers. My vets played for the team. When we lost, they wouldn't blame us. They took responsibility and got in the gym. They showed the young guys what it meant to work. Even in Boston when we had the best record in the league, if we lost a game, you could hear a pin drop on the bus. They showed us the seriousness of the game. My vets didn't have an influence on the coaching staff. They couldn't change the plan because it didn't work for them. I played under one of the greatest coaches, and he held everyone accountable. It takes 1-15 to win. When you isolate everyone, you can't win consistently. I may be a lot of things, but I'm not a bad teammate. My goal is to pass what I learned along. The young guys work. They show up. They don't deserve blame. If anything is questionable, it's the leadership."

Dwyane Wade, Jimmy Butler Suggest Teammates Don't Care Enough

Jan 26, 2017 1:28 PM

Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler ripped their teammates following the Chicago Bulls' 119-114 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Bulls had a 10-point lead with three minutes left.

"I don't know what happened," Wade said. "But we continue to be in these kinds of situations and lose games like this. Everyone don't care enough. You got to care enough, man. It's got to mean that much to you to want to win. And it doesn't. So I don't know what happened.

"I don't know how you fix it. It just doesn't mean enough to guys around here to want to win ballgames. It pisses me off, but I can't be frustrated, and I can't care too much for these guys. They have to care for themselves. You got to do better. You got to do better with knowing where your shot's coming and knock them down. You got to do better with knowing film, knowing personnel. Just as a team, just got to do better, man."

Wade and Butler combined to score 73 points.

Asked whether this loss was debilitating to the Bulls, Wade said he wasn't sure.

"I don't know if they care enough," Wade said of his teammates. "So I can't say it is. I wish I could say that everyone in here is going to go home and not eat tonight. I can't say that. I wish I could, but I don't know that they care enough.

"Games are supposed to hurt. You're not supposed to sleep. You're not supposed to want to talk to anybody. These games are supposed to hurt. I don't know if that is in guys in this locker room. Hopefully they can prove me wrong, but I will challenge them to see if losses like this hurt.

"We can play bad, we can miss shots, but we're having too many of these lapses. We're having too many of these losses. This just can't be acceptable if you want to do something besides have an NBA jersey on and make some money. That's all we're doing around here."

Wade signed with the Bulls in the offseason.

"I'm 35 years old, man. I've got three championships. It shouldn't hurt me more than it hurts these young guys. They have to want it. If they don't want it, then we'll show up and play Friday. Hopefully we win; if we don't, we [do it] again. Keep it going until the season's over. It has to change. It has to hurt inside to lose games like this. This s--- should f---ing hurt."

Butler echoed Wade's sentiments.

"M-----f-----s just got to care if we win or lose," Butler said. "At the end of the day, do whatever it takes to help the team win. You play your role to the tee. Be a star in your role, man. That's how you win in this league, man. You have to embrace what this team, what this organization needs for you to do on either end of the floor.

"On top of everything else, just play every possession like it's your last. We don't play hard all the time. It's very disappointing whenever we don't play hard."

Bulls Struggles Will Impact Dwyane Wade's Decision On 17-18 Option

Jan 24, 2017 5:41 PM

Dwyane Wade admits he is concerned that the Chicago Bulls are currently a .500 team and there won't be much growth over the final three months of the season.

"I do," Wade said after shootaround Tuesday. "I'm 35. I do get concerned. Of course."

Wade signed a two-year deal with the Bulls in the offseason with a player option for Year 2.

"I don't know if it's that simple, if it's that black and white," Wade said. "I think you see certain teams throughout a year can get better and you see certain teams -- you will see it. You can tell that it's just who they are. I've been on both. I've been on teams that it's just who you are and you deal with it for the whole year. And some teams you get better as the years go on."

"Right now we are who we are."

Wade told ESPN.com last week that Jimmy Butler's future would also play a major part in his decision.

"I wouldn't lie to you and say no," Wade said. "Of course. I can't play this game forever. I just turned 35 and I have a number in my head how long I want to play. At the end of the day you want to be in a situation where it's a competitor situation, whatever the case may be. It's tough in this league as well because a lot of that also depends on how much money you're willing to make. It depends on what city you're willing to be in. So it's a lot of variables to that, but no question about it, what happens throughout this year, as I go into my summer, I'll definitely take a look at it. I take my career seriously and where I am and where I want to be. And I will do the same thing this summer."

Bulls Planning Pursuit Of Chris Bosh

Jan 20, 2017 11:40 AM

The Chicago Bulls are already working on pursuing Chris Bosh if he becomes a free agent.

The Miami Heat are not expected to waive Bosh until after March 1st to make sure he's not playoff-eligible for another team.

Bosh's playing career future remains uncertain due to his issues with blood clots. Bosh himself is unsure of what the future holds.

Bosh could reunite with Dwyane Wade if he joins the Bulls.

Jimmy Butler's Future With Bulls Will Factor Into Dwyane Wade's 17-18 Decision

Jan 19, 2017 7:41 PM

Dwyane Wade will weigh the future of Jimmy Butler with the Chicago Bulls as he considers whether to remain with the franchise for the 17-18 season.

The Bulls have been debating whether to initiate a full-scale rebuild, which would involve trading away Butler.

"At the end of the year, you sit back and see what the team is, what direction they're going in," Wade told ESPN on Wednesday night. "I would be a liar to say that I want to play on a team with all 21-year-olds. You know what I mean? And be a part of the future building. I would be a fool to say that. But you also want to be in the best position for what you think is for you at that time, too.

"... One of the main reasons I'm here is Jimmy. He's the one who called me and got me to come here. So that's a big part of my decision and everything else, is what Jimmy's doing, what his future looks like and all that. And I've made it very clear. So I have no idea from that standpoint. You just have to wait and see and then see what works out."

Wade signed a two-year, $47 million deal with the Bulls with a player option for Year 2.

"You would think so," Wade said. "You don't know. You think about guys like, let's just go with Mike Dunleavy, who didn't want to go to Atlanta. I think he had 20 off the bench the other night. You don't know what situation is going to be right for you. In the moment, yeah, you have an idea of what you want to do. And this is the way you wanted it to go and then when it don't go that way, you got to respond. So I don't know.

"I've enjoyed my time here. It's been a learning experience, it's been challenging and it's been cool all in the same. I feel -- for my career, for me -- I needed this. I needed to see what the other side was like, too. ... But I'm definitely very open and honest that Jimmy is one of the reasons I'm here from a basketball standpoint and, as we sit here right now, he's here, I'm here, we're happy. You don't know what's to go from there."

Rajon Rondo 'Absolutely' Wants To Become Coach In Future

Jan 18, 2017 3:39 PM

Rajon Rondo is often described as one of the most intelligent players in the NBA and he is interested in becoming a coach when he retires.

"I absolutely want to coach," Rondo said.

Rondo would like to play "six or seven more years" but he's already preparing for his career as a coach.

"I've been preparing to coach since I left Boston, really," Rondo said. "I study all of my coaches. I watch the way they move, the timeouts they call, plays they draw up out of timeouts, how they run practices, speeches they give. I'm trying to follow it all. I see how players gravitate toward different coaches.

"I actually went back (to Louisville) a couple (of) days ago and saw my high school coach (Doug Bibby). He's one of the best: his delivery, how he encourages players, the confidence he gives them, his attention to detail in timeouts. I'm taking my notes on a lot of different stuff."

Bulls Told Rajon Rondo They're Trying To 'Save Him From Himself'

Jan 10, 2017 6:32 PM

Rajon Rondo spoke to the media for several minutes on Tuesday, addressing his current situation with the Chicago Bulls.

Rondo has been benched by Fred Hoiberg and his future with the Bulls remains unclear.

"I got a slight explanation from another guy on the staff," said Rondo. "A guy told me that he was saving me from myself."

Rondo was asked by the media what he thought of that position.

"I thought it was bullsh*t," said Rondo.

"Save me from myself. I never heard that before in my life. But I guess he was trying to do the best thing for me."

During the interview, Rondo also described the situation as the most confusing of his career.

"You’re only as good as your coach thinks you are. That’s a big part of each individual’s success in the NBA."
