Bulls To Waive Rajon Rondo Barring Last Minute Trade

Jun 30, 2017 1:17 AM

The Chicago Bulls are expected to waive Rajon Rondo unless a trade materializes before July 1st. The Bulls previously had some trade discussions involving Rondo due to his partially guaranteed contract.

Rondo only has $3 million of his contract for the 17-18 season guaranteed out of his $13.4 million team option.

The Bulls were signaling they intended to keep Rondo before they pivoted towards a rebuild by trading away Jimmy Butler.

In a January interview, he said his goal is to play "six or seven more years."

Chicago would prefer to save his salary and offer Rondo's minutes to Kris Dunn and Cameron Payne.

Source: Gar Forman 'Flat-Out Lied' To Jimmy Butler Before Trade

Jun 29, 2017 3:37 PM

Gar Forman lied to Jimmy Butler in the days leading up to the Chicago Bulls trade of him to the Minnesota Timberwolves and even continued to do so minutes before the deal was completed, according to a source.

“[Forman] knows what he said,’’ the source said. “Flat-out lied. That’s just who he is. Travelle [Gaines] hit it on the head.’’

Butler's trainer Gaines' Tweeted out a message condemning the Bulls' front office after the trade was announced.

“0-82. Worst culture in the league. I met drug dealers with better morals then their GM. He is a liar and everyone knows,’ wrote Gaines.

In the week since Butler's trade to the Wolves, there's been criticism coming out of Chicago about him.

“It’s not frustrating,’’ Butler said when introduced to the Minnesota media. “It’s expected. Somebody’s gotta take the blame. I’ll be that guy, I’m OK with it. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but with that being said my phone is in my back pocket right now, if whoever has anything to say to me feel free … 773-899-6071. So if you want an interview, there you have it, please do."

Bulls Willing To Discuss 'Advantageous' Buyout Scenario With Dwyane Wade

Jun 27, 2017 12:43 PM

The Chicago Bulls are willing to discuss a buyout with Dwyane Wade if it is "advantageous" for the team.

Wade has already exercised his $23.8 million player option for the 17-18 season with the Bulls.

With the Bulls trading away Jimmy Butler on draft night, the franchise has signaled their intention to rebuild.

Chicago signed Wade to a two-year, $47.5 million contract during the 2016 offseason.

Bulls Decline Qualifying Offer To Michael Carter-Williams

Jun 27, 2017 11:48 AM

The Chicago Bulls will not submit a qualifying offer to Michael Carter-Williams, which will make him an unrestricted free agent.

Carter-Williams was traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Bulls before the start of the 16-17 season. Carter-Williams won Rookie of the Year in 2014, but he's been progressively less effective during his career as he's failed to progress as a shooter.

The Bulls also have Kris Dunn, Cameron Payne and possibly Rajon Rondo on their point guard depth chart.

Wolves Wouldn't Have Traded For Jimmy Butler Without Pick Swap

Jun 23, 2017 10:38 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves didn't give up a draft pick in their trade for Jimmy Butler, merely swapping No. 7 with the Chicago Bulls for No. 16, while also sending out Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn.

"We didn't want to lose our draft choice," said owner Glen Taylor. "We really thought, as it turned out, moving down a number of notches didn't affect us too much. We still got a young guy (Justin Patton) with a lot of potential."

Taylor was asked whether the Wolves would have still done the deal if the Bulls insisted on keeping their pick at No. 16.

"No, we told them that would break the deal," said Taylor.

Taylor also suggested the Wolves may have selected Lauri Markkanen at No. 7.

Rajon Rondo To Receive Interest From Pelicans, Pacers, Bulls If He Becomes Free Agent

Jun 23, 2017 8:41 PM

The Chicago Bulls remain undecided on whether to retain Rajon Rondo at his $13.4 million salary or waive him for his $3 million guarantee before June 30th.

Chicago values Rondo for his ability still, as well as his mentoring ability, but the Bulls will need to find minutes for Kris Dunn and Cameron Payne next season.

Sources say the Bulls are considering waiving Rondo before trying to re-sign him at a lower salary.

Rondo is expected to draw interest from the New Orleans Pelicans and Indiana Pacers if he becomes a free agent.

Dwyane Wade Could Consider Return To Heat If Bought Out By Bulls

Jun 23, 2017 6:48 PM

With the Chicago Bulls rebuilding following their trade of Jimmy Butler, the future of Dwyane Wade with the franchise remains uncertain. Wade has already signed the paperwork on his $23.8 million player option for 17-18.

Wade could conceivably join LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers, or he could even return to the Miami Heat. In May, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that Wade is open to considering a return at some point in his career.

"Dwyane Wade can apply pressure to be bought out and be bought out immediately," said Brian Windhorst on The Lowe Post.

"I don't think a return to Miami is necessarily impossible. It depends on what Dwyane wants to do. It depends on Dwyane wants to play a bit role on a serious contender, or he wants to set himself for another contract after this season.

"If he went to Cleveland, for example, his role on the Cavs would be more as a supporting player, even a bench player. If he went to a different team he might be a starter, or still be able put up good numbers and position himself for one final contract."

Windhorst expects Wade to pursue a buyout with the Bulls.

Nuggets Were Unwilling To Include Jamal Murray In Jimmy Butler Trade Talks

Jun 23, 2017 4:27 PM

The Denver Nuggets discussed a Jimmy Butler trade with the Chicago Bulls, but were unwilling to include Jamal Murray in any deal.

Murray was one of the league's better rookies last season and is part of Denver's core around Nikola Jokic.

Denver also had concerns about the possibility of Butler leaving in 2019 when he can become a free agent.

Chicago instead traded Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jimmy Butler Loses Potential $29M On Next Contract With DPE Now Unavailable

Jun 23, 2017 12:06 PM

While Jimmy Butler will receive a trade bonus of $1.8 million as part of his move from the Chicago Bulls to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the inability to sign a Designated Veteran Player Exception will be massive.

Butler will lose approximately $31 million over the life of a five-year contract he re-signs with the Wolves at 30 percent of the cap as opposed to 35 percent of the cap.

Butler was a third team All-NBA selection in 16-17.
