Zach LaVine will be a free agent in 2022 and the Chicago Bulls are limited in what they can offer him in an extension due to his four-year, $78 million deal. LaVine is making $19.5 million this season and will make $19.5 million the next.

"Because of that contract, because they can only build off that [$19.5 million] number, even if he wants to extend, he can only extend for four years and $105 million, which would be tens of millions of dollars less than his maximum salary," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "So I think it is unlikely LaVine extends this summer. Unless... Unless, the Bulls do a renegotiation and extend.

"This is rare in the NBA. You take salary cap space and instead of spending it on a free agent, you give it to a guy currently under contract and boost his salary up. So if he's scheduled to make $19.5 million next year. Let's say the Bulls had $10 million in salary cap space, they could him that extra $10 million, bump up his salary to $29 million and then extend off that. They could give him four years off of that. Now, you're talking about a contract in the $150 million to $160 million range. It would be a $40 million to $50 million difference."

Windhorst also referenced how Jimmy Butler wanted the Minnesota Timberwolves to do this for him in 2018.

The Boston Celtics pursued a trade for Nikola Vucevic before he was moved by the Orlando Magic to the Chicago Bulls. Boston offered multiple first round picks and were a finalist.

Boston was also linked to trade talks with the Magic on Aaron Gordon, who was instead traded to the Denver Nuggets.

The Celtics ultimately traded for Evan Fournier, who had the cheapest asking price by the Magic.

With the Celtics trading away Daniel Theis in a tax saving move, they are pursuing Andre Drummond on the buyout market.

The Chicago Bulls have agreed to acquire Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu from the Orlando Magic for Wendell Carter Jr., Otto Porter and two first round picks.

The Magic now head into a more comprehensive rebuild phase.

Chicago will send their first round picks in 2021 and 2023 as part of the trade. The 2021 draft pick is protected top-4.

Vucevic has two seasons remaining on his contract.

The Chicago Bulls are reportedly a team to watch in terms of the Lonzo Ball trade watch. The Atlanta Hawks had interest in trading for Ball, but those talks appear to be dormant.

"New Orleans has certainly been open for business on Lonzo Ball," said Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ball will be a restricted free agent this offseason.

The Chicago Bulls are listening to trade offers on Lauri Markkanen.

Markkanen will be a restricted free agent this offseason after he didn't come close to an extension with the Bulls before the start of the season. The Bulls have received interest from multiple teams on Markkanen. 

Markkanen is averaging 17.7 points and six rebounds per game.

The Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls are interested in trading for Lonzo Ball, sources told Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

The Pelicans are looking for a good first-round pick or a young player in return.

The Bulls have offered Tomas Satoransky and second-round picks, with the Hawks building a deal around Cam Reddish.

Ball is averaging 14.2 points and 5.6 assists on the season.

Thaddeus Young is drawing interest on the trade market, but the Chicago Bulls remain on the playoff bubble and Brian Windhorst reports he is likely to stay put.

The Bulls may be more willing to make a trade involving Lauri Markkanen, who will be a restricted free agent.

Young won't be a free agent until 2022.

Billy Donovan will reportedly insert Tomas Satoransky and Thaddeus Young into the Chicago Bulls starting lineup, league sources told Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.

The two players will replace Coby White and Wendell Carter Jr.

Donovan plans to make the change starting Sunday against the Raptors.

The current Bulls starting lineup of White, Carter, Zach LaVine, Patrick Williams and Lauri Markkanen has a minus-17.6 net rating.

“The first six minutes of games, if you look at the net rating and the numbers, we’ve been one of the worst teams in the league in that area,” said Donovan earlier in the week.
