Isaiah Thomas To Scrimmage For First Time With Cavs On Friday

Dec 28, 2017 8:44 AM

Isaiah Thomas will scrimmage with his Cleveland Cavaliers' teammates for the first time on Friday.

"It'll be a practice, get some shots up, cover defensive rules and principles and also scrimmage a little bit so Isaiah can get a feel and play 5-on-5," Tyronn Lue said.

Thomas aggravated an existing hip injury in last season's playoffs and has been recovering from a torn labrum.

The scrimmage will take place at a high school in Napa following the Cavs' wine tasting excursion on Thursday.

Thomas posted a video of himself dunking last week. One Cavs source told ESPN that it was the first time he'd seen Thomas dunk since the team acquired him.

Thomas will be on a minutes restriction whenever he makes his debut.

Derrick Rose Claims His 'Love Of The Game' Keeps Him From Retiring

Dec 27, 2017 11:44 AM

Derrick Rose returned to the Cavaliers on December 4th and while he has no timetable for returning from his left ankle injury, he wants his fans to know that he is “not depressed,” is improving physically and still loves basketball.

“Be patient. I’m good. I’m just taking my time,” Rose said. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’m not depressed. I’m good. A lot of people think I’m depressed because of what I’m going through. It’s the total opposite. I learned from my mistakes three or four years ago when I put myself into a shell.

“And now that I am in this position, it’s only right that I learn from the best. I’m staying with my team, staying with my family, communicating and just being open.”

Rose was asked if he misses the game while he's hurt.

"I’m here. That is why I am here. The game is in me. That is why I am here. It’s a part of my life. I can’t explain how much I dedicated and sacrificed in my life for this game. Nobody will be able to understand that. I put in too many hours. Nobody will ever understand it."

Rose was asked if he came close to retiring.

"No. No. That’s stupid. I don’t want to even talk about that. But I’m just happy that LeBron understood."

Rose was asked what keeps him from retiring.

"I’m in love with the game. The love of the game. I still am a winner. I still love learning the game. Where else can you learn more than from Golden State or [Cleveland]? LeBron has been to the Finals eight times and seven straight years. I played against him a lot of times. I’ve learned so much from him and the whole team. It’s just a fun experience being around this team."

LeBron James Talks About Enjoying Christmas Games At Staples Center

Dec 24, 2017 3:28 PM

LeBron James was asked about his memories playing on Christmas Day.

James' teams have played in Los Angeles several times over the years. James has been linked to potentially signing with the Lakers during the 2018 offseason.

"Playing in the Staples Center is always a treat," said James. "I've never had the opportunity to play in the Garden, but playing in the Staples Center, I've been there quite a few times. It's kind of always fun to play in front of that crowd and have that atmosphere."

James and the Cavaliers have played against the Warriors on Christmas Day in 2015, 2016 and now 2017.

Sources: Rockets Plan On Pursuing LeBron James In Free Agency

Dec 22, 2017 4:44 PM

The Houston Rockets plan on pursuing LeBron James in free agency, according to sources.

The Rockets have an attractive core with James Harden and Chris Paul, but will have very limited cap space to sign James to a contract anywhere close to his max. When James was previously a free agent in 2014, he made it clear that he would not accept a contract below his full max.

Clint Capela and Trevor Ariza will also be free agents.

Isaiah Thomas Nearly Ready To Begin 5-On-5 Practice

Dec 20, 2017 8:51 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are planning on having Isaiah Thomas participate in five-on-five practices and likely have a scrimmage with their G League affiliate as he gets closer to returning from his hip injury.

Thomas aggravated an existing hip injury in last season's playoffs and has been recovering throughout the offseason.

The Cavs' official timeline for Thomas' recovery provided to the media in late September called for Thomas to be back playing games by the first of the year.

Shams Charania reported that Thomas could return during the first week of January.

"I don't know where that came from, but I hope so," Tyronn Lue said Sunday night of the report. "I hope it's accurate."

The final decision on when Thomas will return will be agreed upon by Thomas, Cleveland's front office and their medical staff.

LeBron James Comfortable If NBA Televises All-Star Selections

Dec 17, 2017 11:06 AM

LeBron James doesn't believe facing teammates in the All-Star Game would impact the locker room of the Cavaliers.

The All-Star Game will have the leading vote getters in each conference serve as captains and select their teammates regardless of conference affiliation.

James is a potential captain as he's frequently led the Eastern Conference in All-Star voting.

"I hope not," James said after Saturday's shootaround. "We're all grown men. It doesn't stop their paycheck from coming. It won't stop you from playing time once the season starts."

James said he doesn't care whether the picks are public knowledge.

"It doesn't matter to me," James said. "It doesn't matter. At the end of the day, if I'm rewarded to be a part of the All-Star Game again, that's cool for me. It doesn't matter. All that other stuff is extracurricular."

LeBron James, Lonzo Ball Keep Postgame Conversation Private

Dec 15, 2017 10:42 AM

LeBron James and Lonzo Ball had a conversation following Thursday's game, which was the first meeting of their NBA careers.

James held his jersey over his mouth as he spoke to Ball, and Ball did the same nodding along with James.

James was asked what he said to Ball by reporters.

"None of y'all business," James said.

Ball followed suit, replying that James "didn't tell me anything."

James has been a mentor to Ball from afar as he sees the rookie as a similar type of player.

James says he ignores the speculation that he could join the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2018 offseason.

"I don't see the reaction because I don't get involved in it," he said. "I don't do it to get a reaction. I do it because he's said over and over since he was growing up who he modeled his game after, who was his favorite player. It was me. I was humbled by that. Me wishing him happy birthday [on Twitter] was kind of the salute back to him. I see all the stupid noise that happens. I can't buy a place in L.A. I can't live in L.A. It's funny noise. But I don't get involved in it. When I post things, I don't look at comments. I'm so far removed from the white noise, and the noise, it doesn't matter."
