Cavaliers In 'Bad Spot', Hold Team Meeting Following Loss To Bulls

Mar 31, 2017 10:48 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers held a team meeting following their 99-93 loss to the Chicago Bulls.

The Cavs dropped to 6-10 in March, which is LeBron James' first double-digit loss total in a month since November of 2003 when he was a rookie.

"We're just in a bad spot right now. Not disappointed with the effort. We're just in a bad spot," James said after the Cavs' fifth loss in their past seven games. "We're going to try to figure it out. ... I think the effort was there. I just don't think the concentration for as close to 48 minutes is there yet. Which is unfortunate."

The Cavaliers are now a half-game behind the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the East.

"Every journey's different. When you're in it, it absolutely sucks, when you're in a rut like this," Kyrie Irving said. "We're taking steps forward. After the game we took a step forward."

LeBron James: Cavs Going Through 'Delicate Time Right Now'

Mar 28, 2017 11:20 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers were blown out by the San Antonio Spurs 103-74 and dropped to the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference behind the Boston Celtics.

"It's a delicate time right now for our team," LeBron James said after Monday's loss. "A lot of people talking ... guys in the locker room. I'm not saying it's for the bad. We've got a couple guys that's shown leadership, some guys that's been in the fray before that's giving their opinions.

"I've learned over the season there's a time and place for it. Certain situations. I kind of wait for the right time ... So my time will come."

James was seen huddling in an intense, personal conversation with an obviously-emotional Kyrie Irving as reporters left the locker room.

Irving went back onto the court to do shooting drills after the loss.

Heat Felt LeBron Attempted To Make Pat Riley 'Grovel' In 2014 Offseason Meeting

Mar 24, 2017 11:52 AM

Pat Riley and the Miami Heat felt LeBron James may have already made up his mind about returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers when they met with him in July of 2014.

"There were also indications the Heat felt James had already made up his mind and was attempting to make Riley grovel," writes Brian Windhorst and Dave McMenamin in their forthcoming book 'Return of the King'.

Riley spoke to James about Miami's new additsions of Josh McRoberts, Danny Granger and Shabazz Napier.

James was upset with Micky Arison using the amnesty clause on Mike Miller, as well as Riley's press conference after the Finals.

Among the book's photos was one of James seated alongside Riley and Arison at the 2014 NBA Finals, with a caption of, "Heat president Pat Riley's 'If you've got the guts' message during a 2014 press conference may have alienated LeBron James on his way out the door. James was also frustrated that Heat owner Micky Arison slowed spending on the roster."

LeBron James Doesn't Think NBA Can Do Anything About Player Rest

Mar 20, 2017 12:15 PM

LeBron James doesn't believe player rest is hurting the NBA and that there's little that can be done to prevent it.

The Cleveland Cavaliers rested James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers that was nationally televised. The Cavaliers played again the next day at the Los Angeles Lakers.

Love and Irving were benefitting from an extra day of rest for Saturday's game, so he decided to hold out James as well. James reportedly was "pissed" about the decision.

"I don't think the NBA can do anything about it," James said. "At the end of the day, it sucks at times where certain guys have to rest, but certain guys need rest.

"And it's a long, strenuous season and the NBA does a great job of putting the schedule together as best as they can. You're going to have back-to-backs. You're going to have certain games where certain things fall on certain nights, but a coach's job is to figure out a way for their team to compete for a championship, not compete for a game."

Kevin Love Expected To Return For Upcoming Road Trip

Mar 15, 2017 12:37 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers expect Kevin Love to return from his knee injury during their upcoming workout.

Love took part in a 3-on-3 workout prior to the Cavs' game with the Detroit Pistons, the 13th game he has missed since undergoing knee surgery four weeks ago.

"Every next step you take in a rehab situation when you come back from surgery allows for the possibility of swelling and setback, it's just how it goes," David Griffin said. "If he gets through it, he has no soreness, we'll let him keep taking the next step all the way through and we'll see what that means. I would anticipate that he'll play sometime on the road trip."

The Cavaliers hope Love will be able to go through a practice this week before flying to the West Coast.

LeBron James Endorses Cavs Signing Larry Sanders

Mar 11, 2017 6:04 PM

LeBron James likes the idea of the Cleveland Cavaliers signing Larry Sanders with Andrew Bogut out for the season.

Sanders hasn't played in the NBA since 2015.

“It looks like he wants another opportunity, and hopefully, if we’re the team, hopefully we give him an opportunity,” James said before the Cavs held shootaround Saturday morning to prepare for their game against the Orlando Magic on Saturday night. “Why not? Everyone deserves a second chance, and it looks like he wants to get back to playing the game he loves, and hopefully this is his destination. You don’t know how much you can get out of a guy that’s been out so long, but I’d love to see it. Why not?”

James does not know how the past two years have changed Sanders, but he seemed open to finding out.

“I could talk about when he played,” James said. “An athletic big guy, incredible shot-blocking skills, anticipation around the rim, can finish around the rim and block shots, and being able to guard perimeter guys as well. With his hiatus, I don’t know what he was going through, so I can’t comment about somebody’s personal life because I wasn’t a part of it.”
