LeBron James Criticizes Double Standard For Players Leaving Teams

Jan 31, 2018 12:53 PM

LeBron James believes there is a double standard when it comes to players leaving a franchise in free agency compared to teams trading players.

James' comments came following the Clippers' trade of Blake Griffin to the Pistons.

"When a player gets traded, [the front office] was doing what was best for the franchise," James said. "But when a player decides to leave, he's not loyal, he's a snake, he's not committed.

"That's the narrative of how it goes. I know that firsthand."

James left the Cavaliers for the Heat in 2010 and then returned to Cleveland in 2014.

James said he was "a little bit in shock" when he learned that Griffin, who re-signed with the Clippers on a five-year, $173 million deal this past summer, had been traded after spending his first seven-plus seasons in Los Angeles.

"But you know the business, as unfortunate as it looks," James said. "You know the business. It is what it is."

Love's injury occurred in the first quarter of Tuesday's game.

Love underwent surgery on the same hand in October 2009 that required three screws to be inserted.

Cavs Asked George Hill To Accept Buyout For 18-19 If LeBron James Leaves

Jan 30, 2018 4:45 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in trading for George Hill but they want protection against his contract if LeBron James leaves in the offseason.

Hill is guaranteed $19 million next season and $1 millon out of $18 million the following season.

The Cavaliers had held talks with the Kings involving Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye.

"George Hill, they didn’t want to buy him out this year," said Brian Windhorst. "What they wanted to do was protect themselves in the event that, if LeBron James left, whether George Hill would be willing to take a buyout on the $20 million he’s owed on his contract after this season."

Rival Exec: Dan Gilbert Running Cavs' Front Office

Jan 30, 2018 11:49 AM

Dan Gilbert was reportedly the driving force behind the Cleveland Cavaliers' trade of Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics. Gilbert strongly coveted Brooklyn's unprotected first round pick in 2018.

Gilbert was recently spotted with Koby Altman at the Oklahoma-Alabama game scouting Trae Young and Collin Sexton.

Altman replaced David Griffin as general manager last offseason but Gilbert has reportedly maintained a close hold on basketball personnel decisions.

"The word is out that Dan is running things," a rival executive told B/R. "Frankly, that's where he's happiest and the role he's most comfortable in."

Isaiah Thomas Has Become A Favorite Of Dan Gilbert

During his short time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Isaiah Thomas has become a favorite of Dan Gilbert.

Gilbert and Thomas often exchange calls and text messages.

While it is common for owners to become friends with certain players, it sometimes becomes an issue among other players.

Thomas will be a free agent in the offseason.

Report: LeBron James' Camp Didn't Initiate Kyrie Irving Trade Talks

Jan 30, 2018 10:27 AM

According to multiple sources, there have two misconceptions about the Cleveland Cavaliers' trade discussions involving Kyrie Irving last June.

LeBron James' camp was not involved in initiating trade talks of Irving as they pursued a deal for Paul George.

The Cavaliers also kept Irving's agent, Jeff Wechsler, fully informed of the talks. All parties also had an understanding that the Cavaliers wouldn't trade Irving if he wanted to stay.

Irving ultimately requested a trade in July and was dealt to the Boston Celtics in August.

Cavs Reached Breaking Point With Culture Following Kevin Love's Absence

Jan 30, 2018 10:22 AM

When the Cavaliers held a team meeting in which Kevin Love was confronted about his absence, it was more about the lack of communication from their leadership than being upset with Love. Isaiah Thomas is said to have been the most outspoken player against Love.

"This was not as much about Kevin Love as it was a bunch of players reaching their breaking point with a culture that was increasingly difficult to be a part of," a person familiar with the organizational dynamics said.

A second source said the Cavaliers weren't trying to hide Love's whereabouts.

"I know for a fact that if any of [the players] had asked a single question, the training staff would've told them where he was," the person said.

Clippers Believe They Have Opportunity To Sign LeBron James

Jan 29, 2018 9:50 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers believe they will have an opportunity to sign LeBron James in the offseason.

The Clippers traded away Blake Griffin in a package for Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley.

Los Angeles could also trade DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams by the Feb. 8th trade deadline if they can find deals that help them in their pursuit of James.

James has previously been linked to the Lakers as he has begun to spend more time in Los Angeles.

Cavs Begin Staggering Minutes Of Isaiah Thomas, LeBron James

Jan 29, 2018 10:14 AM

Isaiah Thomas sat out the entire fourth quarter of Cleveland's win on Sunday over the Pistons.

Thomas played the entire third quarter as he begins to stagger his minutes with LeBron James.

"I don't know. What do you want me to say?" Thomas said when asked about watching the end from the bench. "I'm just glad we won."

Tyronn Lue likes the way James is playing with Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, Jeff Green and Channing Frye.

"We talked about it, so I think that needs to happen," Thomas said of the adjustment. "My minutes just can't be with LeBron at all times. We got to play to our strengths. Just like Chris Paul and James Harden, they don't play together at all times.

"We got to play to our strengths. Kyrie [Irving] last year, they didn't play together at all times. So he's figuring it out, and we're figuring it out as a unit, how to use our strengths, and at the same time, we know for the most part we start games together, finish games together, and we go from there. So it's a learning process, and we're still learning each other. I'm still learning this team, and Ty Lue is still learning how to use me and use me to the best of my ability."

Derrick Rose Was In Bathroom When Tyronn Lue Wanted To Play Him In 4th Quarter

Jan 29, 2018 12:09 AM

Tyronn Lue couldn't find Derrick Rose when he wanted to put him back in the fourth quarter of Friday's win over the Pacers.

Rose was in the bathroom and didn't realize Lue wanted to put him back in the game.

"Hydrating," Rose explained. "I think that a lot of people hydrate. It's one of the reasons Lue got mad at me yesterday. I was in the bathroom. I didn't know he wanted me to come back in the game."

If Rose was put back into the game in the fourth quarter, it would have meant reduced or no minutes for Isaiah Thomas.
