LeBron James Not Thinking About Future Beyond Game 7

Apr 28, 2018 1:20 PM

LeBron James is not entering Game 7 thinking it could be his final game with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"No. No," said James when asked about that possibility.

"The thought of, 'If we don't play well it will be my last game of the year,' that will probably hit my mind, but I haven't thought about that."

James can be a free agent this offseason and his future with the Cavaliers is uncertain.

Windhorst: Early Cavs' Exit Would Give LeBron Extended Period To Plot Next Move

Apr 23, 2018 7:11 PM

LeBron James could become a free agent this offseason but he could also control his destiny in another way by orchestrating an opt-in-and-trade similar to Chris Paul last offseason.

On The Lowe Podcast, Brian Windhorst talked about a scenario in which James could have an extended period of time to work on his offseason plans if the Cavaliers are eliminated from the playoffs before the Finals.

"All I'm going to say is you don't want LeBron to have two months to plot with other players," said Windhorst. "Because, you know, Chris Paul and James Harden have now written the script. While the Finals are going on, if you're not in them, let's just get together in L.A. and plot how you're going to get together. You know, we've gotten in the point in the league where the players have so much power. They can force trades."

When James was a free agent in 2010, the Cavaliers were eliminated in the second round on May 13th.

"LeBron has an option in his contract. I hear people talking about, 'Will it be the "akers?' They go through the four teams with cap space. 'Will it be the Sixers?' If LeBron deems it, he will go to the Cavs, 'You will trade me to team X' and as long as that team isn't trying to force Luol Deng down the Cavs' throat, the Cavs will do the deal because they won't want to lose him for nothing. Just like how the Clippers did not want to trade Chris Paul, but at the end of the day, the alternative was unacceptable.

"If LeBron is left to his own devices and not focused on playing basketball for two months, and he can take meetings with everybody in the league: forget about July 1st, forget about the teams that are going to pitch him. The meetings are going to go down in May and June if LeBron is out of the playoffs. Now, if LeBron is not out of the playoffs and the Cavs get all the way to the Finals, that changes the game quite a bit.

"We're going to get down to June 29th, that's when LeBron's option date is. In fact, whenever the draft is, the Cavs are going to like, you know, be like, 'LeBron, what are we going to do here?' I don't even know if this is even going to get to July. This could all get mitigated out in June."

J.R. Smith: Not Caring About My Numbers Has Probably Cost Me A Lot Of Money

Apr 23, 2018 6:09 PM

J.R. Smith is averaging 10.0 points on a True Shooting Percentage of .502 through the first four games of the playoffs.

Smith hit a buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter from beyond halfcourt.

"I've never been a guy who cared about my numbers like that, probably cost me a lot of money," Smith said. "Those shots, if you can get it off, I like those shots. Whether it's two or three, regardless, you want to get it in."

Smith re-signed with the Cavaliers in 2016 on a four-year, $57 million deal.

LeBron James received a rare technical foul for giving Lance Stephenson a slight shove going into a timeout late in Game 4.

“It’s like elementary school,” James said of the incident. “Lance told me a joke, I laughed and the teacher caught me.

“Keeping the main thing, the main thing. I understand how important I am to the team.”

LeBron James: We Could Never Build For The Playoffs With Changes During Season

Apr 18, 2018 4:37 PM

LeBron James reflected back on the Cavaliers' season before Wednesday's Game 2 against the Pacers and lamented the changes they team went through.

"I think we spent so much time trying to figure out who we were in the regular season and getting the right lineups and guys in and out and things of that nature, we could never build for the playoffs. It was kind of like, build for the next game. So the postseason finally hit us and it hit us very well. And I think that can be the best teacher for us to know exactly what we should be ready for tonight."

The Cavaliers acquired Rodney Hood, George Hill, Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson at the deadline while sending out Isaiah Thomas, Dwyane Wade, Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose.

Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson also missed significant time.

LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard Could Impact Each Other's Offseason Destination

Apr 16, 2018 10:15 PM

While LeBron James will be a free agent this offseason, the most interesting story could be the future of Kawhi Leonard.

The San Antonio Spurs could entertain trading Leonard this offseason if they don't sign him to a five-year supermax.

"What happens to Kawhi Leonard, is a link to what happens to LeBron," said Brian Windhorst on ESPN's SportsNation.

"Where Kawhi ends up this season, will have a direct impact on where LeBron ends up even if they don't play together. They will be linked in where their futures will be."

Windhorst added that the Lakers could approach the Spurs on a trade offer for Leonard. Windhorst also mentioned that James has the ability to complete an opt-in-and-trade similar to what Chris Paul did with the Clippers to get to the Rockets.

Kevin Love: LeBron James' Looming Decision Could Affect Cavs' Playoff Run

Apr 13, 2018 8:34 PM

Kevin Love admitted that LeBron James' impending decision this offseason is looming over the Cavaliers' playoff run.

James will be a free agent for the third time since joining the Cavaliers, but never considered leaving the franchise in previous offseasons.

"It definitely could," Love told ESPN on Friday on whether Cleveland's playoffs could be impacted by James' free agency or vice versa. "But only one person knows what he's thinking and that's 'Bron. I think at the end of the day, we would love to have a long run, but that's going to be up to not only him but all of us. And you know I don't mean only the players, but the coaching staff and everybody. I mean, really getting on board and, you know, sticking to our schemes and playing great basketball.

"So I think it definitely could affect it, but you know that's, at least for me, out of sight, out of mind right now."

The Cavaliers nearly traded away Love for Paul George last offseason.

"My name has always come up and will always continue to come up in trade rumors," Love said. "I guess it's good to be wanted. But at the same time, I've enjoyed being here. I've enjoyed every year competing for a championship. ...We're looking for another run this year. But I don't think that stuff will ever stop. And that's OK. I mean I've come to come to terms with it and, you know, whatever happens happens, but for now I just want to try to win."
