LeBron James said he strongly considered joining the Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets before deciding to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I definitely thought long and hard about the possibilities of lining up alongside Ben [Simmons] and [Joel] Embiid or lining up aside [James] Harden and Chris [Paul],'' James said.

James never formally met with the Rockets or 76ers, though his representatives did meet with Philadelphia on July 1st.

The path for James to join the Rockets would have been difficult in terms of the salary cap.

James said his decision involved where his family would feel comfortable as well.

Kevin Love has signed a four-year contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers worth $120 million.

The deal puts Love's five-year total at $145 million. Love's extension will be at the max in 19-20 and 20-21, followed by no raise in 21-22 and a decrease in 22-23. Love took approximately $8 million less than his full max.

Love could have become a free agent in 2019.

The Cavaliers were widely anticipated to resist trade offers for Love following the departure of LeBron James.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in Luke Babbitt and Trevor Booker in free agency.

No deal with either player is imminent. 

The Cavaliers also continue to negotiate with Rodney Hood, who is a restricted free agent.

Cleveland also has until Aug. 22nd to use a $5.8 million traded player exception from the Kyrie Irving trade.

Hood can take Cleveland's $3.4 million qualifying offer if he's unable to secure a long-term offer from the Cavaliers or another team. Hood could then become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

The Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a trade of Jerryd Bayless for Kyle Korver. Keith Pompey first reported the discussions.

One source described a trade as "possible" but also "far from certain" at this time.

Korver has two seasons remaining on his contract at more than $15 million while Bayless is an expiring contract at $8.6 million.

Korver remains a fan favorite in Philadelphia.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived center Kendrick Perkins.

Perkins (6-10, 270) appeared in one game for Cleveland in 2017-18 after signing as a free agent on April 11, 2018. He also spent time with the Canton Charge this past season, the Cavaliers’ exclusively owned and operated NBA G League team, appearing in 27 games (17 starts) with averages of 8.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed Channing Frye to a one-year, $2.4 million deal.

Frye was traded by the Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers at last year's deadline.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have maintained a line that they're not interested in trading away Kevin Love this offseason. The Cavaliers held that stance regardless of whether LeBron James left in free agency.

Love can become a free agent in 2019.

"I think the Cavs would trade Kevin Love and Kyle Korver but aren't out there peppering teams for trade offers," said Brian Windhorst on ESPN Cleveland. "I don't think the Cavs want to trade them, it's just that they aren't untouchable. The only untouchable is Collin Sexton."

The Atlanta Hawks offered the Cleveland Cavaliers the opportunity to trade up to No. 3 in a deal that would have involved Kent Bazemore.

The Hawks instead swapped spots with the Dallas Mavericks at No. 5. Dallas selected Luka Doncic and the Hawks picked Trae Young.

The Cavaliers wanted Collin Sexton and held firm at No. 8.

The Sacramento Kings have interest in Rodney Hood, who is a restricted free agent.

Talks have not progressed between Hood and the Kings to the point where an offer is imminent.

The Kings see Hood as a fit at small forward.

The Kings tried to sign free agent Mario Hezonja to play small forward, but he took less money and a one-year deal with the New York Knicks.

The Kings recently signed Zach LaVine to an offer sheet that was matched by the Chicago Bulls.
