Collin Sexton Has 'Impression' He'll Remain With Cavaliers Long-Term

Jun 29, 2021 8:23 AM

While Collin Sexton has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate this offseason as he becomes eligible for an extension, sources close to him "have the impression" that he "is part of the long-term plans" of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Sexton is represented by Austin Brown, who negotiated Donovan Mitchell's rookie-scale max with the Utah Jazz.

Sexton averaged 24.3 points and 4.4 assists in his third NBA season.

If the Cavaliers are unable to agree to an extension with Sexton, he will become a restricted free agent in 2022.

The Cavaliers own the third overall pick in the draft, which could lead them to pick a guard such as Jalen Green or Jalen Suggs if Evan Mobley is already off the board.

Cavaliers Explore Trade Market For Collin Sexton

Jun 24, 2021 9:21 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have begun to explore the trade market for Collin Sexton, league sources tell Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated.

Sexton becomes eligible for a contract extension this offseason and appears likely to seek the max.

There is a belief around the league that the Cavaliers would prefer to trade Sexton rather than extend him. The Cavaliers own the No. 3 overall pick of the draft and could use it on a guard.

The Cavaliers selected Sexton with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft with the selection acquired from the Boston Celtics as part of the Kyrie Irving trade in 2017.

Cavaliers, Wolves, Rockets Interested In Trading 2021 Lottery Pick

Jun 23, 2021 8:21 AM

The NBA hasn't seen very many high lottery picks traded in the recent future, but this lottery could be different with several teams interested in trading for a more established player.

"There are multiple teams, I'm told: Cleveland, Minnesota, Houston, who are going to be very aggressive if they're in the top of this lottery with perhaps putting those picks in trades to bring back young veteran players or All-Star caliber players to accelerate their rebuilds," said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN shortly before the draft.

The draft is widely considered to be a good one, especially with five potential All-Stars in Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Jalen Suggs, Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga.

Update: While the Wolves lost their pick to the Golden State Warriors, the Rockets ended up with the second pick while Cleveland will pick third.

Cavaliers Interested In Alex Caruso, T.J. McConnell

Jun 12, 2021 8:35 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be on the market for a backup point guard this offseason with Alex Caruso and T.J. McConnell near the top of their list.

"Both fit really well. Some prefer Caruso. He’s younger, bigger, stronger and can guard multiple spots. Others like McConnell more," writes Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The Cavaliers plan to be aggressive with their mid-level exception this offseason after not using it in 2020.

Kevin Love, Cavaliers Have Yet To Discuss Buyout

Jun 12, 2021 8:28 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Kevin Love have yet to engage on a buyout.

Love would likely have to initiate those talks with the Cavaliers while also giving up some salary to get the franchise to seriously consider it.

Love's contract runs for two more seasons with his trade value presumably increasing as 2023 gets closer if he can establish himself as healthy and productive.

Isaiah Hartenstein Likely To Decline Player Option To Become Free Agent

Jun 12, 2021 8:25 AM

Isaiah Hartenstein is expected to decline his $1.7 million player option for the 21-22 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers to become a free agent. Hartenstein can likely earn more on the open market while also securing a multi-year deal.

Sources say Hartenstein's preference is to negotiate a long-term deal with the Cavaliers and remain with the team as Jarrett Allen's backup.

Allen will be a restricted free agent.
