Nets Considered Favorites To Sign Bryn Forbes; Bulls, Cavs, Mavs, Pelicans Also Interested

Jul 31, 2021 4:05 PM

Bryn Forbes is a free agent after a successful season with the Milwaukee Bucks. Forbes is one of the better three-point shooters in the NBA though he has defensive limitations on the other end of the floor.

The Brooklyn Nets are believed to be the leading candidate to sign Forbes, according to sources that spoke with Bleacher Report.

The Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans will also pursue Forbes.

Forbes didn't play in the final three games of The Finals as Mike Budenholzer went with Jeff Teague instead.

Kevin Love Initiated Contact On Team USA Roster Spot, Thought He Was In Shape To Play

Jul 30, 2021 8:51 AM

Kevin Love withdrew from the United States' Olympics roster after he played poorly in two exhibition games while citing an injury.

Jerry Colangelo explained what happened with Love.

"I didn't think Kevin Love was going to play. I wasn't even sure he had much left to play," Colangelo said. "He reached out to us and said he was in shape and said he felt he owed us. And on the basis of that, we're looking at someone with international experience who at one time was a heck of a rebounder and could still shoot the ball. You know, being like a 12th man on a roster.

"Well, it didn't work out. He wasn't in shape. And he was way behind as it turned out. So you move on. Call it a mistake. Call it giving someone an opportunity. Someone who had equity with us."

Brian Windhorst shared on The Hoop Collective podcast on Friday that scouts were discussing how Love also looked bad during the Team USA practices.

Love and the Cleveland Cavaliers could explore a buyout in the coming months.

Cavaliers Would Only Trade Out Of No. 3 For 'Godfather' Offer

Jul 29, 2021 2:01 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have received significant interest from teams trading for the third overall pick and while the team is listening to offers, sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that it would take a "Godfather" offer to move out of the slot.

Cade Cunningham is expected to go first to the Detroit Pistons, followed by Jalen Green to the Houston Rockets, which will make Mobley available to Cleveland.

The Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City are motivated to move up to No. 3 from slots No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

The Cavaliers do have interest in adding a second pick in the top-10, though that would likely cost them Collin Sexton, Larry Nance Jr. or a 2022 first rounder.

Cavaliers Considered Team In Top-3 Most Likely To Move Down

Jul 28, 2021 1:17 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have shown more willingness to move out of the top-3 than either the Detroit Pistons or Houston Rockets. The Cavaliers are further along in their hopes of competing for a playoff spot than either the Pistons or Rockets.

If the Oklahoma City Thunder are able to move up, the Cavaliers are the most likely trade partner. The question is whether the Thunder would agree to send Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in a package for No. 3.

“I’d personally stay where I’m at and take Evan Mobley or Jalen Green,” one GM said. “As much as I love Shai, he’s not quite at the same level those guys are and the Cavs really need a star.”

The Cavaliers have a decision to make this offseason as Colin Sexton becomes eligible for a contract extension and has reportedly been shopped.

Raptors, Magic Make Trade Offers To Cavaliers For No. 3

Jul 22, 2021 10:59 AM

The Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic have made offers to the Cleveland Cavaliers to move up to No. 3, sources tell The Ringer.

The Cavaliers have received significant trade interest in the pick in general.

While this draft began as having a top-5, Jalen Suggs and Jonathan Kuminga have appeared to drop out of what is a top-3 in Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green and Evan Mobley.

The Magic own picks No. 5 and No. 8, while the Raptors are at No. 4.

If the Raptors stay at No. 4, sources tell The Ringer that Suggs isn't a lock and that they will also consider Scottie Barnes.

Kevin Love Hasn't Considered Retirement

Jul 17, 2021 3:49 PM

Kevin Love has not discussed or considered retirement at this point, sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Love stepped away from Team USA this week due to a lingering calf injury.

Love is owed $60 million over the next two seasons and has missed 116 out of a possible 219 games since signing an extension in 2018.

“I think I understand that probably being that number one guy, playing 35 minutes and getting 20 touches a game, is probably in my rear view,” Love said recently. “I don’t try to put a ceiling or limit on myself at all. So long as I’m feeling good, I know that I’m going to play good. I’m going to chase the game like I always have. But I do believe that if it’s asked for me to have to pivot in my career for a team to win, I’m more than I’m willing to do that.”

"I am incredibly disappointed to not be heading to Tokyo with Team USA, but you need to be at absolute peak performance to compete at the Olympic level and I am just not there yet," said Love.

The United States will replace both Love and Bradley Beal on their roster. Jerami Grant is in quarantine while Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton are still playing in The Finals.
