Collin Sexton Considered More Likely To Take Qualifying Offer Than Three-Year, $40M Offer From Cavs

Jul 29, 2022 8:21 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers' latest offer to Collin Sexton in restricted free agency is worth approximately $40 million over three years, according to Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Sexton is coming off a meniscus tear at the start of last season and has a qualifying offer of $7.2 million. While Sexton was injured, Cleveland's core of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen crystalized.

"The offer I reported, the three-year around $40 million, I don't get the sense Collin and his camp would take that," said Fedor on the Lowe Post. "I don't think they would take a multi-year deal at that number. In fact, I think it would be more likely they would take the qualifying offer, go into unrestricted free agency next offseason. Try to rebuild the value before that. Show that you can be healthy. Show that the meniscus tear is behind you. Show you can adapt to a lesser sixth man role. All those different things. I think that is more likely than taking the multi-year offer that the Cavs have made at this point in time."

Sexton is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, who has a successful history of prolonged negotiations with restricted free agents.

Fedor also adds that there are many members of the Cleveland front office who prefer Caris LeVert over Sexton due to the size differential on defense.

Collin Sexton Has Offer On The Table From Cavs

Jul 24, 2022 10:11 AM

Collin Sexton is one of the best free agents still available. Sexton being a restricted free agent has complicated his market.

Despite that, Sexton has a standing offer on the table from the Cleveland Cavaliers. The offer is believed to be in the range of three years and $40 million. That's well below what Sexton hoped to get in free agency this offseason.

Sexton missed all but 11 games last season due to a knee injury. For his career, Sexton is nearly a 20 points-per-game scorer on solid shooting efficiency.

Cavs Unveil 3 New Jerseys For 2022-23 Season

Jul 19, 2022 1:41 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers unveiled three new uniforms for next season, including the Association (white), Icon (wine) and Statement (black) colors.

The Statement jersey features a Jordan logo and is inspired by the team's title run in 2016.

The new uniforms are part of a larger overall brand refresh.

“We wanted to put our players in a uniform that would make them feel strong, confident and proud to represent this new chapter of Cavaliers basketball,” said creative director Daniel Arsham. “It’s a very clean, reductive, modern design that pays homage to all of the players and fans that have been a part of our team’s remarkable journey in becoming who we are today.”

The upcoming jerseys will also include Cleveland-Cliffs as a new patch partner.

Jazz Have Explored Sign-And-Trade With Cavaliers For Collin Sexton

Jul 13, 2022 11:00 AM

The Utah Jazz have explored sign-and-trade scenarios with the Cleveland Cavaliers that would send Mike Conley for Collin Sexton.

Sexton is a restricted free agent and his market has been slow to publicly materialize this offseason.

Sexton averaged 24.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 35.3 minutes over 60 games during the 20-21 season. Sexton suffered a torn ACL 11 games into his 21-22 season.

With Darius Garland emerging as an All-Star last season, the future of Sexton with the Cavaliers has been murky.

Cavs Will Sign Ricky Rubio Using Part Of MLE, Not Via Sign And Trade

Jul 8, 2022 8:18 AM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are bringing Ricky Rubio back on a reported long-term deal. That signing will be done via part of the Cavs Mid-Level Exception, as opposed to being part of a sign-and-trade with the Indiana Pacers.

Cleveland dealt Rubio to Indiana at the trade deadline, along with a first-round pick, for Caris LeVert. In recent days, the two teams had linked up to look at possible sign-and-trade moves, but were unable to find a workable deal. Because Rubio's contract expired, as opposed to him being waived by the Pacers, he avoids the one-year re-signing restriction and is eligible to re-sign with the Cavaliers.

Rubio played well for the Cavs before tearing his ACL in late-December. The veteran point guard is expected to miss the first part of the season while rehabbing from the injury. When healthy, Cleveland likes Rubio's steady hand guiding the offense when All-Star Darius Garland is out of the game.

Raul Neto, Cavaliers Agree To One-Year Deal

Jul 1, 2022 5:04 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued adding to the depth in the backcourt. The Cavs have agreed to sign veteran guard Raul Neto.

Neto will join Ricky Rubio, who recently agreed to sign with Cleveland, as depth behind All-Star Darius Garland. Rubio is expected to be out until midseason after tearing his ACL while with the Cavs last season.

Neto averaged 7.5 points and 3.1 assists per game in 70 appearances for the Washington Wizards last season. Neto has good experience playing both on and off the ball in his career.

Cleveland is still hoping to re-sign free agent guard Collin Sexton. Sexton is currently a restricted free agent.
