Fernandez Close To Deal With Real Madrid

Aug 15, 2011 12:31 PM

One source says Rudy Fernandez has not yet reached a deal with Real Madrid, contrary to earlier reports.

“The negotiations are very advanced, but it’s not done yet,” the source said. “It will likely be announced later this week, but at this point it’s not finished.”

The deal Fernandez is negotiating would allow him to return to the Mavericks once the lockout is over.

“Rudy is very committed to Dallas,” according to the source. “The contract he’s about to sign means that Real Madrid his choice in Europe if he chooses to stay in Europe, but he’s not closing the door on a future in the NBA with Dallas after this year.”

Legends Put Together Aggressive Offer To Pearl

Aug 4, 2011 10:54 PM

Donnie Nelson said the Texas Legends put together "the most aggressive package in D-League history" in an effort to make Bruce Pearl the next head coach of the team.

"He is our A-Man and we are hoping to make something happen," Nelson said. "We have had basketball dialogue all day long. Based on our lunch this afternoon, my wallet is not near as big as Mark [Cuban] but it is wide open."

Pearl is nearing a decision on the job, though he has also entertained offers in broadcasting.

"I've always seen myself as a college basketball coach - it's all I've done," Pearl said. "Things change and I still want to coach and teach.

"I am very excited about today about listening to what the Legends have to offer."

Tyson Chandler Hopes Curry Gets Second Chance

Aug 4, 2011 12:30 PM

Tyson Chandler came into the NBA and joined the Chicago Bulls with Eddy Curry.

Chandler was recently asked what happened to Curry's career.

"It's unfortunate," said Chandler. "I still think Eddy should be a top three big guy in this league. Easily. With his physical advantage, his size and his touch and his athletic ability for being that big ... it's something that we lack in this league right now. Not a lot of big guys out here. He should be at the top of his game. He should be an impact player. I felt bad for him in New York. I felt like he never really got a shot. I don't know what went on there, so I can't take sides, but I definitely felt bad for him. I felt like if he had an opportunity to change things around, to show people that he was valuable ... I hope that opportunity comes around for him."
