The Dallas Mavericks have waived Troy Murphy to sign Derek Fisher.

Murphy was signed shortly before the start of the season.

Murphy averaged 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 18.3 minutes over 14 games.

Derek Fisher will sign with the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.

Rick Carlisle announced the move following the Mavericks loss on Wednesday to the Bulls.

Fisher spent the end of the 12-13 season with the Thunder.

The Dallas Mavericks left Darren Collison inactive for Wednesday's game against the Bulls.

The Mavericks started Dominique Jones at point guard instead of Collison in their previous game, but Rick Carlisle advised not to read too much into it.

Collison was publicly displeased.

"Am I happy about the situation as a competitor? No," Collison said. "I know how hard I work. I'm still going to try to lead this team to victories in the near future." 

Collison has a sprained middle finger on his right hand.

Dirk Nowitzki plans on resuming basketball activity within the next two weeks and is targeting a mid-December return to games.

Nowitzki underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Oct. 19.

"I guess after every surgery you have some ups and downs," said Nowitzki. "You have some good days and you do a little more and you have a couple bad days.

"There were tons of bad days there a couple weeks ago. But it's getting better, and that's why we increased the workload starting yesterday."

Rodrigue Beaubois has been frequently injured throughout his NBA career.

"I've been really concerned about his health, to be completely frank about it," coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's the guy that if he's five percent off in his athleticism and his quickness, it's going to affect his game and it's going to affect guys around him.

"Right now we are going to need him to play in some situations. But if he's not playing that much we encourage him to spend more time on rehab strengthening and those kinds of things."

"I don't think Roddy is completely comfortable yet," owner Mark Cuban said. "I still think he's favoring his foot and his hand and his ankle."

Shawn Marion is not 100 percent healthy, but he will return from his sprained left knee ligament on Friday against the Pacers.

“I’m tired of doing rehab,” said Marion.

The Dallas Mavericks went 2-3 during Marion's absence.

Vince Carter and Shawn Marion are the "two best leaders" of the Dallas Mavericks if you ask Rick Carlisle.

Carter was not a player often characterized in that manner earlier in his career.

“We’ve really had a great experience with him ever since he’s been here,” Carlisle said of Carter. “He’s been a terrific person in the locker room, on the floor he’s an experienced vet that’s done a lot of tough things. He’s one of the few guys on our team who takes charge, and he’s a go-to guy right now for us, without question.”

Shawn Marion will be out at least one week with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Marion will be reevaluated next week.

The Dallas Mavericks will waive Eddy Curry to create a roster spot for Troy Murphy.

Curry was signed before the start of the season due to the Mavericks being thin in the frontcourt.

Troy Murphy has signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Murphy spent the 11-12 NBA season with the Lakers.
