Don Nelson Voted Into Hall Of Fame

Mar 29, 2012 1:01 AM

Don Nelson will be among this year's class inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Nelson, a three-time coach of the year and the NBA's all-time winningest coach, said he got the call Wednesday morning after being snubbed for several years. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will officially announce the 2012 class on Monday at the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans.

"It's a great honor to cap my career," said Nelson, who is involved in several business ventures and splits his time between Dallas and Maui. "I've had a great time and a great life coaching basketball. I don't actually need to be rewarded for anything, but I am very proud and my family is very proud of this award."

Delonte West Close To Return From Injury

Mar 27, 2012 10:39 AM

Delonte West is targeting a return to action on Thursday for the first time since fracturing his right ring finger on Feb. 15th.

"I'm trying to get back as quick as possible," West said. "I don't want you guys to think I'm trying to wait for 100 percent healing.

"I'm actually trying to do more than the trainers really want me to do. I would like to target these games [also Friday at Orlando] at the end of the week. If not, definitely next week, for sure."

"There's a lot of possibilities when you get a guy like Delonte back, because he's a two-position player," Rick Carlisle said. "His presence can impact other positions. More than anything, we've got to get him healthy first, and then it will lighten (Shawn) Marion's load defensively."

He sought a buyout last month.

Dwight Howard To Play Final Option Year Of 12-13 With Magic

Mar 14, 2012 3:58 PM

Dwight Howard has informed the Magic that he will play the option year of his contract in 12-13 with the team, sources have confirmed.

Christian Bruey of WFTV initially reported Howard's intentions following a meeting with the Magic.

Howard has not signed the paperwork, but he has told multiple people of his intentions. The reporting has been confirmed by Chris Broussard and Ken Berger amongst others.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!, Howard called a meeting with his teammates in San Antonio and told them he was "all in" for the remainder of the season. He also reports that Howard didn't explicitly tell his teammates that he was opting in for next season.

The Nets have long been hoping to pair Howard with Deron Williams, who also can become a free agent this summer.

Howard also put the Lakers and Mavericks on his list of preferred destinations if the Magic were to trade him.

Magic To Seek Trade Without Commitment From Howard

Mar 14, 2012 2:12 PM

The Magic plan on trading Dwight Howard if they do not receive a commitment from him beyond the current season, according to sources.

"Dwight's dreaming if he thinks Orlando won't trade him without a commitment,'' a source said. "He needs to make some small commitment to them. They're saying it can't be one way.''

Orlando is convinced Howard is attempting to manipulate the situation. Sources say the Magic are incensed with Dan Fegan, who represents Howard, and is the driving force behind his push to leave the team.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Howard hoped to sign with the Nets outright in free agency in order to allow his new team to retain their assets.

The Magic have told the Nets and Lakers, amongst other teams, to begin bidding for Howard.

The Nets are hoping to trade for Howard, which would bring certainty to their situation as the Mavericks remain a threat for Howard and Deron Williams.

The Lakers remain interested in Howard, though they have been more active in pursuing a trade of Pau Gasol and to add a point guard.

Orlando is interested in a trade with the Knicks for Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler, according to sources. New York has discussed the deal internally but have been given no assurance Howard would remain with the team in the long-term.
