One Win From .500, Mavericks Invite Barber To Pacers Game

Mar 27, 2013 5:02 PM

The Dallas Mavericks, who haven't shaved in weeks as they climb back to .500, are a win away from reaching the mark.

Seven players were part of the pact -- O.J. Mayo, Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter, Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, Jae Crowder and Dahntay Jones. Jones has since shaved because he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks last month.

The pact was made when they were seven games under .500. They're 35-36 after winning nine of their last 12 games.

Mayo's barber, Omar, has been invited to Thursday night's home game against the Indiana Pacers.

"Man, everyone is going to have their clippers in their locker Thursday and hopefully you guys can watch us shave them off," Mayo said. "The barber will be here. We're going to leave him tickets and give ourselves a chance to shave them off.

"I want to make sure to do it right. I don't want to leave no patches."

Mavericks Won't Keep Chris Wright, Will Sign Justin Dentmon

Mar 23, 2013 6:50 PM

The Dallas Mavericks have decided not to give Chris Wright a second 10-day contract.

The Mavericks will next sign Justin Dentmon to a 10-day from their D-League affiliate, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Wright appeared in three games for the Mavs, playing a total of four minutes.

"He's been an inspirational figure to a lot of people," Rick Carlisle said. "He's an NBA-caliber player. There's no doubt about that. You do what he's doing -- playing a professional sport with MS -- that's going to be something that a lot of people pay attention to. It shows his motivation, his determination, but it also shows the progress that's been made in that area.

"It's going to give people hope. That's a great thing."

Jason Terry Wants To Prove Mavericks Should Have Kept Him

Mar 22, 2013 10:37 AM

Jason Terry will return to Dallas on Friday when his Boston Celtics face the Mavericks, and he made clear he'll play with an edge to prove the fans and his former team that they should have re-signed him last offseason.

“It’s cool, had to come sooner or later," Terry said. "We’re going to go back there and I’m going to be super-aggressive. We’ll see what happens.”

Terry's former teammates believe the guard will receive a loud ovation on Friday.

Terry played a key role on the Mavericks' championship team in 2011.

Cuban Expects Nowitzki To Maintain Current Level Of Play For At Least Three More Seasons

Mar 16, 2013 11:40 AM

Mark Cuban does not anticipate any slippage in Dirk Nowitzki's game over the next few seasons.

Nowitzki has helped guide the Mavericks to a 6-2 record thus far during the month of March.

“Dirk is dialed in,” Cuban said. “He wants to see how far we can take this. What we’re seeing now from Dirk is what we can expect to see from him next year … and the year after that … and the year after that. At least.”

Nowitzki will turn 35 in June.

“It’s a different world now,” Cuban said. “Look at Tim Duncan. Kevin Garnett, Kobe, Pau Gasol, Paul Pierce … You’ve got guys with the technology to stay healthy longer. The science of dieting … it’s completely different now.

“Thirty-six is the new 30. It’s a plus-six right now. Ten years from now it will be a plus-10. Guys that are coming out of college now will be playing at 42 and 43 if they’re good.”

Dominique Jones Signs With D-League's Armor

Mar 15, 2013 3:33 PM

Free agent guard Dominique Jones has signed with the Springfield Armor of the NBA D-League, his agent told RealGM.

While Jones received interest from two NBA teams since being waived by the Dallas Mavericks on March 9, the 24-year-old believes playing in the D-League will allow him to log significant minutes and continue to develop. Jones is still open to signing with an NBA team before the end of the season, preferably under a contract that is partially guaranteed for next season.

Jones will report to Springfield on Monday and is expected to play Tuesday against the Erie BayHawks.

“Dominique just wants to keep growing, keep improving, and he’ll get a chance to do that now,” agent Michael Hodges said Friday.

The former first-round pick acquired by the Mavericks in the 2010 draft, Jones averaged four points and almost three assists in 29 games this season. He averaged 17.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 rebounds in 13 games over the past two seasons with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ D-League affiliate.

Dominique Jones Refused D-League Assignment Before Release

Mar 11, 2013 11:27 AM

The Dallas Mavericks released Dominique Jones on Saturday after reaching a point of complete frustration with his inconsistent play and off-floor issues.

Dirk Nowitzki hopes Jones manages to remain in the NBA.

“I like Dominique, he was my man,” Nowitzki said. “I think he’s got an NBA body, he’s got the NBA strength.

“Hopefully he’ll be able to find a job next year and he’ll be able to play.”

Jones refused a D-League assignment, according to a source.

“This gives Dominique the opportunity to get the playing time he believes he deserves with another team,” said another source.

“He never really got a real shot at it,”' Nowitzki said. “I like his athleticism, I like what he brought, it just wasn’t a good situation to be in.

“I obviously wish him luck for the future. I was always cool with D-Jones and I wish him luck.”

Mavericks In Market For Player To Fill Final Roster Spot

Mar 9, 2013 9:28 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to add another player to fill their roster out at 15 players, the NBA maximum.

The Mavericks waived Dominique Jones last week.

“From an organizational standpoint, it’s a move that gives us some flexibility to the end of the year and we can look at some different guys,” Rick Carlisle said. “That was the thinking. It was time to make this move.”

Mike Bibby, Baron Davis, Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, and Greg Oden are among the free agents who have yet to sign with a team.

Brandon Wright Hopes To Stay With Mavericks

Mar 9, 2013 11:48 AM

Brandon Wright hopes to stay with the Dallas Mavericks when he becomes a free agent this summer.

Wright is thankful that Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson gave him an opportunity after an injury-proned start to his career.

“I take a lot of pride in coming in here and getting my career resurgent after all the early injuries I had,’’ Wright said. “Donnie and coach and Cube gave me opportunities to get my career back started and get on my feet here and show my talents, so I’d love to come back here.’’

Wright has been one of the Mavericks’ best interior defenders this season.

“He’s one of our big guys that give us a little different dimension,’’ coach Rick Carlisle said. “He was active [Wednesday] night, moved well in the paint, got the ball in the basket a few times.

“He’s a quicker big guy that can help us in pick-and-roll coverages when we’re dealing with quick guys. We need him and we need everybody.’’
