Billups Doesn't Know When He'll Return

Dec 31, 2009 4:15 PM

Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups doesn't know when he'll be able to return from a strained groin.

Denver planned to rest Billups in back-to-back games earlier this week and have him return on Saturday at Utah.

"I don't know man, I really don't know, to be honest," he said Wednesday when asked about facing the Jazz.

"It doesn't hurt to walk around or even jog ? I feel good ? it's the cutting, trying to get by a defender," Billups said. "That's my problem most of the times."

He has missed five of Denver's last six games.

Karl Isn't Comfortable With Anthony, Smith At Point

Dec 28, 2009 2:42 PM

Nuggets coach George Karl isn't comfortable using either Carmelo Anthony or J.R. Smith at point guard.

Denver has been without starting point guard Chauncey Billups because of a groin injury lately and, at times, Anthony and Smith end up with the ball in their hands in a point situation.

"I'm definitively, totally against Melo and J.R. being our point guards. When it happens in the flow of the game, fantastic, but there's some games where I don't know who the heck the point guard is out there," Karl said.

"It's on me. I allow it, and I like freedom and creativity and versatility, but there's no question that Ty (Lawson) and Chauncey (Billups) should have the ball."

Billups To Miss Two Games

Dec 27, 2009 6:11 PM

Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups will miss the team's next two games to rest his strained groin.

Billups injured his left groin on Dec. 16 against Houston and missed Denver's next three games. He returned on Christmas Day against Portland, but didn't play in the second half.

The Nuggets said in an injury update report Sunday that the move was "not a setback" and the goal was to avoid a "lingering problem."

Nuggets Offer Karl Around $12M

Dec 25, 2009 7:34 AM

The Nuggets and representatives for coach George Karl continue to discussion a possible contract extension.

Denver has made an offer to Karl, which a source told the Denver Post was for three years and roughly $12 million.

Karl, who is in the final season of his current deal, wants to remain with the Nuggets but feels as though he should be paid as one of the top coaches in the NBA.

"I've always said I want to be in Denver, nothing's changed there," said Karl. "When you see all this stuff that's written, it just makes it sad that I'm probably going to have to be a businessman. I don't want to be a businessman ? I want to be wanted, signed and move on."

Nuggets Offer Karl Multiyear Extension

Dec 23, 2009 4:39 PM

The Nuggets have offered head coach George Karl a multiyear extension.

However, sources told FanHouse that the two sides are still far apart on an agreement.

The offer is reportedly for three years and a little more than $11 million, but the third season isn't guaranteed.

The average annual amount is around what Karl is making right now.

"Both parties are working hard and trying to use the end of the year as a point of a soft deadline," Karl's attorney,  Bret Adams said.

Billups Looking To Return Wednesday

Dec 18, 2009 4:54 PM

Billups is doubtful for Friday's game against the Hornets and considered day-to-day for Sunday's tilt with the Grizzlies.

He injured his groin in this past Wednesday's game against the Rockets.

Denver coach George Karl has mentioned off days on Monday and Tuesday as a great chance for Billups to really get right.

Billups is averaging 17.4 points and 5.7 assists this season.

Nuggets Thinking Of Cutting Back Shootarounds

Dec 14, 2009 7:27 AM

Nuggets coach George Karl, who was once against the trend of cutting back morning shootarounds, is now tinkering with the possibility.

Denver's practice on Sunday served as their shootaround for Monday night's game against Oklahoma City.

Sleep studies around the NBA have shown that both players are coaches aren't getting enough sleep, which can lead to a lack of focus.

"I think we're listening to some needs of players and philosophies of some other teams, trying to get more focus and seriousness into the moments that we're together," Karl said. "Shootarounds seem to be very tedious and non enthusiastic situations.

"There's a lot of different philosophies out there. Some teams have totally gone away from shootarounds, some very good teams. We have a lot of every-other-day games. I think we have an opportunity over the next four or five games to experiment a little bit."

Karl stressed he won't completely eliminate shootarounds this season.

Afflalo Has No Hard Feelings Toward Pistons

Dec 11, 2009 7:55 AM

Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo has no hard feelings towards the Pistons for trading him this past offseason.

Afflalo returned to Detroit with Denver for the first time on Thursday night.

"It's going good," said Afflalo. "We're winning. It's still early in the season somewhat, and I'm still trying to find my way a little bit.

"It's just a good situation. I'm enjoying it."

Afflalo has started 16 games in row for the Nuggets. He said that Detroit president Joe Dumars was very fair to him prior to the deal.

"Joe kept me well informed," said Afflalo. "With the guard situation (in Detroit), it is what is; they got a lot of power here, so it's just a good situation for both of us.

"It's part of the business. I'm not going to be the first young player to get moved."
