Wilson Chandler Eyeing Jan. 13 Return

Dec 28, 2012 2:10 PM

Wilson Chandler has missed all but four games this season but participated in Denver Nuggets shootaround on Friday and believes he is a little over two weeks away from a potential return.

“I’m very excited,” Chandler said. “The first time I was excited to play but I was kind of weak and just wasn’t ready. This time around I feel really strong and confident about it.”

Chandler, who is dealing with a hip injury that's much longer to heal than he had thought, is aiming to come back on Jan. 13.

George Karl To Consider Altering Travel Schedule

Dec 17, 2012 1:21 AM

Although George Karl is continuing a strong recovery from cancer, he could speak with Denver Nuggets officials about reducing his travel schedule -- one idea being staying overnight in a road city and then flying somewhere the next morning instead of leaving with the team after the game.

Still, Karl doesn't believe any new plan will consist of him missing games.

“I don’t think it’ll ever go that far,” he said. “I’ve thought about not traveling with the team on the late-night flights. I’ve thought about instead of getting to bed at 4 o’clock in the morning, I’ll let my coaches have the morning shootaround. I’ll sleep in in L.A. or I’ll sleep in in Sacramento, get up at 7:30 or 8 o’clock, catch a flight. I’ve thought about that.

"But my energy level is getting better and stronger every year. I’m feeling healthier. I’m trying to eat better. People ask me all the time how am I doing. I’m doing a hell of a lot better than I was doing before I got cancer.”

Karl believes his future as coach of the Nuggets remains long term.

“The way I phrase that is,” Karl said, “every year I think my window of thinking about retiring is bigger than it’s ever been. But it’s still not very big.

“This team here, I see me coaching for a while because I think it has a chance to be really good."

Nuggets Want Rim, Three-Pointers, Free Throws

Dec 12, 2012 10:47 AM

The Denver Nuggets are averaging 53.9 points per game in the paint, easily first in the NBA.

George Karl outlined his offensive philosophy and why the Nuggets are so successful in getting easy looks.

"We want rim, we want the 3-ball and we want free throws," Karl said. "All the other shots after that are residual of how we play. If a team lets you get to the rim, we're going to get to the rim. If a team takes the rim out, we've got to find the 3-ball.

"I don't think our 3-ball, the shots themselves, have been bad shots. We haven't had that momentum game where we knock everything in and everybody gets into a rhythm. When we make a 3-ball in a quarter, like the Golden State game when we took a 15-point lead, it's important to us. And we haven't found it as consistently as we like, but that doesn't mean it's going to change. We're going to stay with what we got and trust that, over the course of a season, our team will shoot what they normally shoot."
