McGee, Blatche May Reunite In FIBA World Cup For Philippines

Jan 30, 2014 1:19 PM

JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche may play in the 2014 FIBA World Cup for the Philippines.

"We’re in discussion with Javale. However, he’s just found out that he needs to undergo a procedure for his shin injury. With that development, it’s prudent also to choose a backup. Blatche agreed to undergo the naturalization process. He wants to play for the Philippines," national team coach Chot Reyes said.

In Congress, Deputy Speaker Robbie Puno filed two separate bills seeking the naturalization of McGee and Blatche.

“A resolution was arrived at. The board reiterated its full support to the Gilas program. They generously cut back the season schedule by one month,” said Reyes.

“The PBA team owners have agreed to compress the season. The second and third conferences finals were reduced from best-of-seven to best-of-five. We’re also compressing the in-between conferences breaks to meet Gilas’ request,” said PBA commissioner Chito Salud.

“Even the start of the 2014-15 season will be delayed to allow the team to compete in the Asian Games,” Salud added.

McGee and Blatche were teammates with the Washington Wizards.

Danilo Gallinari To Miss Entire Season With Second Knee Surgery

Jan 21, 2014 3:24 PM

Danilo Gallinari underwent a second surgery to repair a torn ACL on Tuesday and will miss the entire season, according to sources.

Gallinari suffered his torn ACL last season and was expected to return this season.

“It was recently determined that the procedure that Danilo underwent on his knee this past summer was insufficient,” Tim Connelly said in a statement.

“Danilo’s knee required that he undergo reconstruction of the ACL, which was successfully completed earlier this morning. Knowing Danilo’s drive and work ethic, we look forward to a full recovery and a healthy return to the court next season.”

Brian Shaw Still Willing To Coach Andre Miller If He Accepts Role

Jan 10, 2014 4:33 PM

Brian Shaw reiterated he is willing to coach anyone on the Denver Nuggets as long as the player buys into the team's role system, and Andre Miller has a slim chance to return to the bench at some point, according to a source.

"I'm willing to coach anybody on our roster that's willing to play and do what the best thing is for the team, whatever role that is," Shaw said. "And so right now he...is dealing with what he wants to do. But in the process, my concern is what's best for the Denver Nuggets and right now that is continuing with the guys that are here right now and just looking ahead to our next opponent and what we need to do to prepare for that."

Miller yelled at Shaw during a game on Jan. 1, and the coach regretted not letting the veteran guard know about plans to reduce his role. Shaw believes the Nuggets, winners of their past four games, have been "able to rally around" Miller's absence.

"My decision was made to change the rotation, to reduce the rotation at that point," Shaw said. "The only thing I would have done differently is probably would have gone to him beforehand and said that 'I've shortened the rotation and now you're on the outside, looking-in. Other than that, I made that decision based on where the team was and what I thought was best for the team. Unfortunately, it led to the situation we're in now."
