The Denver Nuggets will promote Calvin Booth to their lead front office executive following the departure of Tim Connelly to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Booth and assistant general manager Tommy Balcetis met with Nikola Jokic's camp in recent days to discuss the future of the franchise. Booth and Michael Malone also spoke with Jokic over the phone.

Booth played in the NBA from 1999 until 2009 and was a scout with the New Orleans Pelicans before spending four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Booth became Connelly's right-hand man after Arturas Karnisovas was hired to run the Chicago Bulls.

Nikola Jokic has reiterated his long-term commitment to the Denver Nuggets this week following the departure of Tim Connelly to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Nuggets plan to offer Jokic the five-year, $260 million supermax extension in July and he plans to sign it.

Jokic’s brothers, Strahinja and Nemanja, met with Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth and assistant GM Tommy Balcetis in recent days to discuss the team’s future. 

All sides left the meeting aligned on the future.

The Denver Nuggets have been in touch with Nikola Jokic following the departure of Tim Connelly to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jokic expressed his opinion that he remains comfortable with the direction of the team.

Jokic is eligible to sign a five-year, $254 million supermax extension this offseason, which he has previously said he intends to sign.

Calvin Booth is widely expected to assume responsibilities running the team.

Jokic has had a close relationship with Connelly.

With Tim Connelly leaving to run the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Denver Nuggets are expected to continue with Calvin Booth leading the franchise.

Booth was hired by the Nuggets as assistant general manager in 2017 and promoted to general manager in 2020.

Booth has ascended the ranks as one of the more promising second in commands in the league.

Tim Connelly has agreed to become President of Basketball Operations of the Minnesota Timberwolves on a five-year, $40 million deal with a kicker for ownership equity.

Connelly will leave the Denver Nuggets with Calvin Booth expected to replace him.

The Wolves had targeted one of the NBA's leading decision-makers for the role over the past few months.

The Nuggets tried to keep Connelly, but their offer was dramatically lower than Minnesota's. Only a handful of top league executives have ownership equity as part of their deals. 

The Minnesota Timberwolves are in serious talks with Tim Connelly to become their President of Basketball Operations.

The Wolves received permission to speak with Connelly from the Denver Nuggets and the sides have moved beyond exploratory conversations.

No agreements have been reached and nothing appears imminent at this time.

Sachin Gupta, the Timberwolves’ executive vice president, remains a significant part of the organization’s long-term vision and is a candidate to continue overseeing basketball operations. The Wolves haven't ruled out the possibility of Gupta remaining in charge, but the talks with Connelly represent the possibility of hiring someone above Gupta. 

Nikola Jokic has been voted the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the second straight season.

The award will be formally announced later this week.

Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo were the other two finalists for the award. 

The Denver Nuggets finished with a 48-34 record despite playing the entire season without Jamal Murray, and most of it without Michael Porter Jr. Jokic's production was similar in 21-22 as it was in 20-21 when he won his first MVP.
