Pistons Split On Whether To Trade Jerami Grant

Jan 28, 2022 12:29 PM

The front office of the Detroit Pistons may be split on whether to trade Jerami Grant at the deadline.

Marc Stein writes that "Arn Tellem [is] said to be open to an immediate trade" of Grant. This presumably means that Troy Weaver would prefer to retain Grant, who has outplayed expectations since signing with the Pistons in 2020.

Grant has one season remaining on his contract and is seeking a four-year extension worth more than $100 million this offseason. Grant also wants to maintain a big role within his team's offense, which was a major reason why he left the Denver Nuggets.

The Sacramento Kings have been linked to Grant, but it is unclear if they can assemble a satisfactory trade package. The Atlanta Hawks are said to not be in active pursuit of Grant.

Hawks Not In On Trading For Jerami Grant Right Now

Jan 28, 2022 8:50 AM

The Atlanta Hawks have been linked to Detroit Pistons forward Jerami Grant in trade talks, but that seems to be over for now. While Atlanta did engage Detroit in conversations, it seems like that was a while ago and both sides have moved on.

Grant is one of the better players available on the trade market approaching the 2022 trade deadline. He reportedly gave Pistons general manager Troy Weaver a list of teams he'd be opened to be traded to.

It's also been reported that any team trading for Grant should be willing to entertain a contract extension with the versatile forward. Grant is reportedly seeking a four-year deal worth north of $110 million.

Kings, Hawks Emerge As Strong Suitors For Jerami Grant

Jan 25, 2022 3:52 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers have remained primarily engaged with the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings on a Ben Simmons trade of late.

The Kings have shown a willingness to take back the contract of Tobias Harris, which is not the case with the Hawks. The Hawks have been searching for a third team to function as a trade partner.

Both the Hawks and Kings, meanwhile, have emerged as strong suitors for Jerami Grant. There are a number of other teams interested in Grant such as the Chicago Bulls, Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers.

The Hawks have also grown more active in searching for a trade of John Collins.

Jerami Grant Offered List Of Preferred Trade Destinations To Pistons

Jan 25, 2022 8:19 AM

Jerami Grant and his representatives have presented a list of teams to the Detroit Pistons where he would prefer a trade if they decide to go in that direction at the deadline. Grant signed a three-year deal with the Pistons during the 2020 offseason and will be eligible for a contract extension in the offseaon.

"He still wants to sign a contract extension this summer," said Brian Windhorst. "I think he's eligible for one over one hundred million. If he gets traded somewhere, he wants to get traded somewhere he's going to get paid.

"I was told his representation came to the Pistons and said 'If you're going to trade him, here's a list of teams we would be interested in going to play for.'

"The Pistons are not even sure if they're going trade him, much less trade him to one of those teams."

Lakers Offered First-Round Pick, Talen Horton-Tucker For Jerami Grant

Jan 22, 2022 8:39 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to survey the league for ways to upgrade their roster. Recently, Los Angeles offered a 2027 first-round pick, Talen Horton-Tucker and Kendrick Nunn as a package to the Detroit Pistons for Jerami Grant. The Pistons are holding out for more for their best player.

The offer of a pick, plus Horton-Tucker and Nunn, is the best the Lakers can do in trade talks. They aren't trading LeBron James or Anthony Davis. Russell Westbrook isn't someone teams are interested in without being paid to take on his contract. The remainder of the Los Angeles players are on minimum contracts.

2027 is the first year the Lakers have a first-round pick available to trade. Los Angeles still owes two picks to the New Orleans Pelicans. The latter of those picks can be conveyed as early as 2024, but the Pelicans can also defer the right to acquire that pick until 2025. That limits the Lakers to 2027 as the first year they have a first-round available in trade.

Lakers, Blazers, Knicks, Jazz, Wizards, Celtics, Pacers, Wolves, Kings Interested In Jerami Grant

Jan 18, 2022 11:22 AM

The Detroit Pistons have received interest in Jerami Grant from the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks, Utah Jazz, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.

The Pistons are seeking either two first round picks or one first round pick plus a high upside young player in exchange for Grant.

Grant expects to sign a lucrative extension in the ballpark of four years, $112 million this offseason.

Washington is viewed by some league personnel as a favorite to trade for Grant. Grant grew up in the D.C. area and is familiar with Wes Unseld Jr. from their time together with the Denver Nuggets.

The Memphis Grizzlies have been mentioned in some circles speculatively, but they're not expected to pursue Grant.

Pistons To Acquire Bol Bol From Nuggets For Rodney McGruder

Jan 9, 2022 2:42 PM

The Detroit Pistons are finalizing a trade to acquire big man Bol Bol from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Rodney McGruder and a second-round pick. Detroit will send Denver a 2022 second-round pick via the Brooklyn Nets.

Bol has played in just 53 games in two-plus seasons since joining the Nuggets following the 2019 NBA Draft. He was once thought to be a potential lottery pick before suffering a torn ACL in his one season at the University of Oregon. Bol will get a chance to play with the rebuilding Pistons that he never received with the Nuggets.

Bol is eligible for restricted free agency following the season.

McGruder has played in 33 games in two seasons with the Pistons. He's had a limited role for a rebuilding team deep in young guards. McGruder will be an unrestricted free agent following the season. Because he has Bird rights, McGruder will need to approve the trade to Denver.
