Tim Hardaway has decided to call it quits.
''I wanted to play another year because I didn't go out the way I wanted to go out,'' Hardaway, 37, said via telephone Friday, sounding like no retirement is ever official. ``I went out being hurt. I never went out on my own terms. The coaches don't think I can play anymore. If they don't want me, forget it.''
So on the plane flight from San Antonio to Houston late Tuesday night, after having struggled through 28 minutes against the Spurs, the veteran decided to think long-term and elected to shut himself down for 10 days in hopes the pain goes away for good.
"I need to use my quickness, get into the lane and make some floaters, make some easy shots," the first-year Warrior said. "Right now I can't -- I can't accelerate."
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Forward Sean Lampley signed Friday with the injury-plagued Golden State Warriors, who received their second special roster exemption in two days because of injuries.
Dan Langhi re-signed with the team Wednesday after the Warriors received permission from the NBA to sign another player.
Lampley played last season with the Miami Heat, who released him last month.
The Warriors have the maximum three players on injured reserve: Troy Murphy, Evan Eschmeyer and Popeye Jones. They also have two more injured players on their active roster: Mickael Pietrus and Adonal Foyle.
"The Warriors used an NBA-granted "hardship exception'' to re- sign forward Dan Langhi, who was released Saturday. The league allowed the Warriors to add a 13th player to the active roster because of their myriad injuries. Langhi practiced Thursday and will be available to play tonight."
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Rookie Mickael Pietrus was activated from the Golden State Warriors' injured list Wednesday.
Pietrus, the 11th overall pick in last summer's draft, sprained his ankle during the Warriors' season opener Oct. 29. His condition improved rapidly this week: On Monday, the Warriors said they didn't expect him back for at least another 10 days.
To make room on the roster, Golden State placed forward Popeye Jones on the injured list with a left knee injury. Jones had surgery Nov. 5 and is expected to be out five more weeks.
The shooting guard said the left-ankle sprain he suffered during the Warriors' valiant comeback attempt wasn't all that serious, adding that he hopes to play when the team returns to the court Wednesday against Detroit.
"The Jazz will play Golden State tonight without team captain and usual starting small forward Matt Harpring, who is not with the team due to a death in his family."
Warriors backup center Adonal Foyle will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today at Stanford, the team announced Wednesday. Foyle has had swelling in the knee for weeks.
``The way I play,'' Foyle said, ``it's not going to help me if I have a swollen knee.''
Warriors shooting guard Jason Richardson is finished serving his three-game suspension and will return Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks at the Arena. Nick Van Exel, his running mate in the backcourt, might be back Wednesday. If not then, likely Friday against the Utah Jazz.
