Warriors Making Personnel Decisions Around Stephen Curry

Jun 22, 2020 1:03 PM

The Warriors are admitting to building their team around Stephen Curry, which will influence their decision with the sixth overall pick.

"It's obvious and true that Curry is a guy who is going to have the ball in his hands a lot, and we're going to play right through him a great deal," Larry Riley said. "He's the point guard of this team, and Monta (Ellis) plays the two, and that's the direction we're going.

"You don't build your team around a two-guard. You build around a point guard."

The Warriors own the No. 6 pick and are expected to target a big man such as DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe or Ekpe Udoh.

GM Tells Anthony Randolph He's Not Being Shopped

Jun 18, 2010 1:13 PM

The Warriors may draft a power forward, but that won't necessarily mean they intend to trade Anthony Randolph.

"I told (Randolph) Monday, 'I'm not trading you unless there is a heck of a player on the other side of the deal. You're not going anywhere,' " Riley said.

Randolph's name has been mentioned in trade rumors involved Minnesota.

"I really am not looking to trade him," Riley said. "I am not in search of trading Anthony Randolph, and I'm not shopping him. ...

"This is the year we'll make a lot of determinations on him, and he'll make a determination on his career. There is huge upside there, and I would hate to walk away from that."

Warriors Interested In Xavier Henry At No. 6

Jun 8, 2010 8:14 AM

Warriors general manager Larry Riley says he prefers to draft the best player available rather than go with need.

Golden State owns the No. 6 pick in this month's NBA Draft.

Kansas guard Xavier Henry believes the team is interested in him, but they already have an overabundance of wing players.

"They made it clear that they were really interested in me," Henry said Monday. "I think I showed them everything they wanted to see. I think I should at least be in contention for it."
