Duncan Will Miss A Few Weeks With Ankle Sprain

Mar 22, 2011 1:44 AM

Tim Duncan is out indefinitely after spraining his left ankle in a 111-96 win over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night.

Gregg Popovich said Duncan would be out “a while” but had no timetable. Antonio McDyess said he spoke with Duncan after the game and thinks he will miss at least a couple of weeks.

X-rays on Duncan’s foot were negative.

“We can win without Timmy in the rest of the regular season and get that top seed,” Tony Parker told the San Antonio Express-News. “But we’re not going anywhere in the playoffs without him.”

Smart's Relationship With Curry May Be Major Reason He Could Lose His Job

Mar 17, 2011 7:29 PM

If Warriors owner Joe Lacob decides not to bring back Keith Smart as coach, Smart's relationship with Stephen Curry will be somewhere near the top of the list of reasons why.

There is no feud, no profanity-laced shouting matches or even any dislike, really. There's not even really a "problem."

But something's amiss between the two.  To say Smart has had Curry on a shorter leash than Don Nelson did a year ago would be an understatement.

Curry's minutes per game have decreased this season compared to the minutes he got under Don Nelson.  And the number of games that Curry has played over 40 minutes per game is less than a third this season as compared to last.

There's no doubt Smart isn't treating Curry like an elite guard. And anyone who's been watching the games can see Curry's body language, and not just when he comes out of games. Curry doesn't have the bounce he had last year, the pep ... the smile.

Warriors Trying To 'Figure Out What Winning Basketball Is'

Mar 10, 2011 3:09 AM

The Warriors are seven games behind Memphis for the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference and to catch them they would have to leapfrog the Rockets, Jazz and Suns.

More realistically, the Warriors could go 13-5 to finish the season .500, but 12 of those games are against teams above .500.

"We've just got to keep fighting," Stephen Curry said. "Getting kind of late in the season. Kind of run out of excuses for the losses we're having. But we're all learning from it. We've just got to figure out what winning basketball is night in and night out."

Baron Sees Similar Young Energy With Cavs As He Found Initially With Warriors

Mar 8, 2011 1:30 PM

Baron Davis laments the way Golden State's run of competitive basketball ended so quickly.

"I think about that a lot," Davis said after Cavs practice on Monday. "We were the most talked about team in the league. We were playing winning basketball. And then ... "

Davis sees similar traits with the Cavaliers as what he experienced when he joined the Warriors in 2005.

"It's the same situation as Golden State," Davis said. "Different weather, mind you. But the energy is here. I step into a situation with a bunch of young guys. The organization is great. We have really good folks that are going to push us and push me back to the top. I see this as an opportunity, more so than anything, for me to get back to where I am able to do the things that I am capable of doing."

Davis doesn't regret his decision to sign with the Clippers and the time allowed him to save his legs and approach the game from more of a cerebral vantage point.

"My game has transitioned a lot," Davis said. "I've been able to study the game and watch the game by playing a different way. I've been kind of missing that fast-break style, the way we played with the Warriors. That's what was promised to me, that I was going to have an opportunity to run up and down the floor. The freedom wasn't there. I went to L.A. and basically played within a box. Now, I can get outside that box again."

Lacob: Warriors Could Have Dealt For Gerald Wallace

Mar 7, 2011 6:16 PM

Warriors owner Joe Lacob says the team could have acquired Gerald Wallace prior to last month's NBA trade deadline.

Portland ended up dealing for Wallace in a trade with Charlotte.

Lacob made the comment while grading some of moves made around the league.

"It depends whether you're a fan of Gerald Wallace," he said in reference to how the Blazers did. "We could’ve gotten Gerald Wallace – he’s not somebody we thought would make us better. I really believe that. He just doesn’t fit for us. He’s good defensive player, rebounder, certain things that do fit, certain things that don’t."
