Report: Mark Jackson A Finalist For Warriors Job

May 30, 2011 3:49 PM

Mark Jackson -- the former New York Knick, Indiana Pacer and current analyst for ESPN and ABC -- is very much being considered for the Golden State job.

In fact, Jackson has had two conversations with the Warriors, including one with owner Joe Lacob, according two NBA sources.

That is significant because Lacob was not in on the Warriors' first set of discussions with candidates. It is unknown whether Brian Shaw, Frank Casey or Lawrence Frank has met or talked to Lacob up to this point.

Stephen Curry Undergoes Ankle Surgery

May 26, 2011 12:09 AM

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry underwent successful surgery on his right ankle earlier on Wednesday, the team announced.

The surgery, which was performed by Dr. Bob Anderson, a foot and ankle specialist at the OrthoCarolina Clinic in Charlotte North Carolina, repaired instability that existed in the ankle due to recurrent ankle sprains. Curry, who missed a total of eight (8) games last season due to multiple sprains of the right ankle, is expected to be ready for training camp in the fall.

Curry, 23, appeared in 74 games during the 2010-11 season, averaging 18.6 points, 5.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.47 steals. He led the NBA in free throw percentage (.934), ranked third in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.442) and became the first player in NBA history to shoot at least 45% from the floor (.480), 40% from three-point territory (.442) and 85% from the free throw line (.934) in his first two seasons in the league.

West Believes Golden State Needs Changes To Roster But Big Trade Isn't Necessary

May 25, 2011 4:07 AM

This offseason, the Warriors have hired a new assistant general manager in Bob Myers and an advisor in Jerry West.

West was asked on Tuesday if he believes changes are necessary in order to improve the roster.

"I do think there's changes that need to be made here, I really do. And I know they do, in talking with them.

"And there's a lot of ways to make changes. You don't necessarily have to trade players sometimes, and you can sign free agents. And they have the ability to sign a free agent."

West was asked if the Warriors already have a great player.

"I think greatness is measured over a period of time. They'll take players and anoint them at a very early age. I always say you shouldn't judge a rookie until after his third year to see if he grows.

"I look at (Stephen Curry), for instance, I see tremendous growth in him as a player. Tremendous growth. But there's still more room for improvement and that improvement will come through experience.

"Monta Ellis, a fierce competitor. He competes his fanny off every night. Love to watch him to play. But to me, size helps. Size helps."

West Sees Rival Western Conference Teams Slipping

May 25, 2011 3:59 AM

Jerry West is optimistic that the Warriors are not too far away from competing.

"I think there's teams in the West that are slipping and I think it's obvious who they are. But I just see an opportunity here, I really do. And it's about the people. My biggest concern was not to come up here and step on anybody's toes. I'm a team player.

"I see an opportunity here because of the athletes they have on the team, I think the fan base, and I see risk-takers on this ownership.

"And if people are not willing to take a risk to get something they don't have -- and that means trading players, being active, talking to the other teams, finding out who's going to be available."

Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank is scheduled to meet with Golden State officials this weekend.

Jackson, a cable television analyst, has been pursuing a head coaching job for several years.

Sources: Warriors Conduct Interview With Shaw

May 21, 2011 3:40 PM

Longtime Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw threw his hat into the Golden State ring, as he interviewed with the Warriors for their vacancy in the last couple of days, according to multiple sources.

Shaw, 45, has strong ties to the Bay Area. He is a native of Oakland, Calif., and his hometown even celebrated "Brian Shaw Day" on Aug. 10, 2010. His candidacy might have received an unexpected boost Friday when the Warriors announced the hiring of former Lakers general manager Jerry West to Golden State's executive board.

West was the GM in 1999 when Shaw's relationship with the Lakers first began, when he was signed to provide depth at shooting guard while Kobe Bryant was sidelined with a broken hand.

Jerry West Joins Warriors As Advisor

May 20, 2011 4:16 AM

Jerry West has agreed to join the Warriors front office in a non-decision-making, advisory role, multiple NBA sources confirmed on Thursday.

West’s exact title has not yet been formalized, but he is expected to be reporting to co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber.

Golden State hired former agent Bob Myers as assistant general manager in April.

West and Myers have a long relationship via West’s close friend Arn Tellem, Myers’ mentor in the agenting industry.
