Kevin Durant To Miss Another Game, Warriors Admit He Should Have Sat At OKC

Nov 25, 2017 2:18 PM

Kevin Durant has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans with a left ankle sprain.

Durant also missed Friday's game against the Chicago Bulls.

Steve Kerr admitted the Warriors should have sat Durant in Wednesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

"We probably shouldn't have played him Wednesday," said Kerr. "I thought he was fine but then he got a little sore afterward."

The NBA had designated the game as one of its "marquee" matchups for national television.

Kevin Durant Has Moved To Better Place With Feelings Towards Thunder

Nov 16, 2017 5:19 PM

Kevin Durant spoke about how he's finally moved on past his negative feelings towards the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant has yet to reconcile with Russell Westbrook or Sam Presti, and he was initially bothered by Okalhoma City's decision to allow PJ Dozier to wear No. 35.

"Those people really mean a lot to me to this day," Durant said. "No matter if they talk to me or they're mad at me. Whether it's Sam Presti or Troy Weaver or Russell Westbrook or Nick Collison. Whether it's Wilson Taylor or Clay Bennett and his family, I love them from the bottom of my heart. We're not talking, but eventually we will.

"I didn't have that perspective at first. I didn't have it when I went back to OKC. I was like, 'F--k all of them.' I didn't have it when they gave my number away. I was, 'F--k all of them.' My best friend works for the team, I told him, 'F--k all y'all. That's f--ked up.' Then I had to get out of my head, tell myself, 'It's not that serious, it is what it is.' I understand it's not my number anymore, they can do whatever they want with it, but you hand that number to a two-way player, you've got to be, like, 'Nah, we've got too many good memories with this number, man.' But at some point, that thing's going to be in the rafters anyway; it's all good. I did something they didn't like. They did something I didn't like. S--t happens. If I was on my death bed, I guarantee you Sam Presti and Russell Westbrook would come check on me. So I'm going to look at it that way rather than the other way."

Kevin Durant Feels More Comfortable With Stephen Curry Being Face Of Warriors

Nov 16, 2017 11:07 AM

Kevin Durant's transition to California and the Golden State Warriors has gone as well as one could have expected.

“It's a transition to a different life,” Durant said about California. “Every day I wake up, I'm still getting used to living in the Bay Area. And I'm still getting used to playing with new teammates and putting on a new jersey. It's gonna take me some time. You settle down somewhere for so long, it's just like, no matter if you just moved, you still gonna feel that adjustment.”

Durant is also enjoying being around Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

“A lot of those people, they just think a little different,” he told me. “They simplify their lives, and they have some clarity. And when you have those two things, you kind of see things for what they are. Some stuff is not as big as you think it is. You're not as important, or the situation may not be as important, as you think it is. Brian Grazer taught me that.”

Durant is enjoying being a member of the franchise instead of the face of it.

“Steph Curry is the face of the franchise, and that helps me out, because I don't have to,” he said. “I don't want to have to be the leader. I'm not a leader. I'm bad at saying, ‘Stand behind me and follow me.’ No. I'm one of those guys that's just like, ‘Let's do this shit together. Let's just work everybody together. I don't mind being on the front line with you, but let's come and do it together.’ That's my way of leadership. I'm leading by example.”

Kevin Durant Felt LeBron 'Passing The Torch' With His Game 3 Shot

Nov 16, 2017 11:08 AM

Kevin Durant's shot in Game 3 over LeBron James stands out as a defining moment of his career. The shot helped the Warriors take a 3-0 lead over the Cavaliers but it was also symbolic for Durant with what James has meant to him personally.

“That was the best moment I ever had,” Durant told GQ. “I made the game-winning shot in the finals against my (expletive) idol. Somebody that I really, really, really followed since I was a ninth-grade high schooler. I felt like he was passing the torch to me.”

James' decision to leave Cleveland for Miami was influential in what Durant decided to do.

“He's four years older than me, so he's still the big homie. But I'm on the same level as a basketball player. Off the court, I can learn a thing from you. But as a basketball player, I feel like it's 1A, 1B. And that's an accomplishment for me.”

Durant said he thinks about his shot over James nearly every day.

“That feeling was amazing,” he said. “But also, I'm gonna put that memory to the side when I start up again and just go play.

“It feels like…it's a weird year,” Durant said. “It is weird. But I still had fun. Right? You can have a weird year and still have fun.”

Durant's decision to join the Warriors in 2016 was as much about personal growth as it was basketball.

“I chose to take control of my life, and I think that was a huge step for me personally, and I felt really proud,” said Durant.

Steve Kerr: Boston Looks Like The Team Of The Future In The East

Nov 15, 2017 11:12 AM

Steve Kerr described the Boston Celtics as the next great team in the Eastern Conference.

"It sure looks like Boston is the team of the future in the East, with the assets that they still have and their young talent and their coaching, and Kyrie [Irving] is amazing," Kerr said after practice Tuesday. "That looks like a team that is going to be at the top of the East for a long time to come. Whether their time is now or the future, that's to be determined, but they sure look like they want it to be right now."

Kerr complimented the Celtics for how they've worked in younger players while continuing to play excellent basketball at the top of league.

"They're really sound, and they're motivated," he said. "It's a team that's been on the rise the last couple of years. They lost in the conference finals. They want to win a championship, and it looks like it. Even without Gordon Hayward and that awful injury, Boston is just crushing people. So, it's going to be really fun to go against them on Thursday. We know how tough it's going to be."

The Warriors will play at the Celtics on Thursday.

Kevin Durant Striving To Be All-NBA Defender

Nov 10, 2017 11:21 AM

Kevin Durant had made significant improvement over the past few seasons as a defensive player. Durant said his motivation to dedicate himself to that side of the floor was out of fear.

"I've been a scorer my whole life," Durant told ESPN this week. "I've been a one-on-one player my whole life. All I've thought about in the past was different ways to score, rather than different ways to impact the game. Since 2012-13, I've been trying to figure out ways to impact the game outside of scoring.

"Defense started to creep in there probably two years before I got to the Warriors. Defense started to become a focal point for me where I wanted to be trusted. I didn't want to be the guy where all the film clips are about how they back-doored me, or how someone drove around me or how I'm not contesting shots. I was more so just nervous about being called out during film sessions. That's why I wanted to get better."

Durant is second in the NBA in blocks behind Rudy Gobert, averaging 2.45 per game.

Durant said he would "like to be an All-NBA defender."

"I just want to be counted on by my coaches and my teammates in those situations," he said. "I don't want my coach to have to pull me out the game in situations in the fourth quarter because I can't play defense and then they need to go to a defense-offense [substitution pattern]. I don't want to be that player. I never wanted to be that player. So that's what I feared more than anything."

Durant elevated his defensive game playing beside Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston.

"It's contagious," Durant said. "If you're seeing that all the time, and it's creating points for you, that s-- is fun. It's fun when you get your teammates involved on both ends of the floor and you're all as one out there on the basketball court. You don't want to be the liability, and that's what I'm fighting against."

Durant also credited Thabo Sefolosha and Kendrick Perkins for influencing him on defense.

Steve Kerr Expected To Sign Extension With Warriors In Offseason

Nov 9, 2017 10:34 PM

Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors held preliminary talks on a contract extension last summer.

Kerr ultimately decided to table a finalization of the deal until he felt healthy enough to make a long-term commitment. Kerr held the initial talks with Bob Myers.

The Warriors fully expect Kerr to sign an extension next summer.

“We just agreed we'd wait,” Kerr said. “I've got two years left on my deal and wanted to make sure that everything went well this year health-wise. And I don't anticipate any issues going forward.

“I don't have any desire to be anywhere else. So I'm sure when we get down to it, we'll come to an agreement pretty quickly.”

Kerr signed a five-year, $25 million deal in May of 2014.

“Yeah, I'm a horrible negotiator,” Kerr said. “But I'm not going anywhere else. I have no desire to coach anywhere else. I love living here, I love the Warriors, I love working with Bob and Joe (Lacob). Love the players. I'm not going anywhere.”

Draymond Green Declines To Respond To Mark Cuban's Comments

Nov 5, 2017 8:51 AM

Draymond Green declined to comment further on remarks made by Mark Cuban. Cuban said Green owed the NBA an apology for suggesting the term "owner" has a bad connotation.

"Nobody can prep me," said Green. "I'm going to always say what I want. Ain't no prepping me. At all. Ever. Don't ever believe that. Can't prep me for nothing. Don't ever think that.

"I do live in America. However, you can't prep me for nothing. Don't ever think I've been prepped for an interview. Don't work like that."

"I understand both sides," Andre Iguodala, the vice president of the National Basketball Players Association, told ESPN. "I think Mark Cuban has the right to defend himself because he has a majority stake in an NBA team. But he's done a great job of carrying that position with integrity, with respect, with equality to everyone who's involved with his organization. So, I understand because he's removed himself so far from the other incident that owners have gotten themselves in trouble with references to American historical events. So, I understand that he has to defend himself, but at the same time, he's not able to understand what it's like to be an African-American and certain terms being thrown around and how we feel about them."
