Warriors Will Refund PSL Fees After 30 Years

Jul 20, 2017 11:55 AM

The Golden State Warriors are the first NBA team to use personal seat licenses to finance their $1 billion Chase Center.

A team official confirmed that the number of seats dedicated for season-ticket holders will decrease from the 14,500 currently at Oracle Arena in Oakland to roughly 12,000 at Chase Center in San Francisco. Half of the tickets will come with a per-seat cost of $15,000 or less. The other half would cost more than that.

The fee will essentially act as an interest-free, tax-free loan for three decades. The Warriors will return the money the fan paid for the right to buy tickets after 30 years. The license will be called a "membership."

The membership will be transferable, but unlike in the NFL, the licenses will not be allowed to be resold for a value above the original price paid minus the years used.

The Warriors will let fans pay for memberships in installments, though those plans haven't been formalized.

Warriors Rejected Pacers' Offer Of Paul George For Klay Thompson

Jul 13, 2017 6:54 PM

The Indiana Pacers were interested in trading Paul George to the Golden State Warriors and made an offer for Klay Thompson.

The Warriors weren't interested in trading away Thompson, who has two seasons remaining on his current contract, for George as he enters his probable walk year.

“I was aware of it,” George said of the offer to Golden State. “I would’ve looked forward to it, of just being in a good situation and a chance to compete for a championship. But it didn’t happen. It’s still fun to team up with a special talent and have a chance to compete against that team.”

Indiana instead traded away George to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.

Steve Kerr: Kevin Durant Taking Less Money Reminiscent Of Tim Duncan

Jul 11, 2017 12:53 PM

Kevin Durant's decision to take less money on his contract this season reminded Steve Kerr of Tim Duncan, who was his teammate for several seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.

Durant's decision to take less money allowed the Golden State Warriors to more easily re-sign Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston while also signing Nick Young.

"I knew he was going to give up enough money to allow us to keep Andre and Shaun," said Kerr. "I didn’t know he was going to go beyond that. A remarkable gesture. I told him it reminded me a little bit of Tim Duncan and his time with the Spurs. He made max money and then at key times in his career he took a little less so they could add a player here and there. The way the league works, the way the CBA works, it really kind of is up to the star player at key times to take a little haircut here and there. Whether that’s fair or not, I don’t know. But I do know that Tim knew it was dramatically helping his own career and KD understands the same thing. In the end, he’s going to make a fortune in his career. Already has and he hopefully is going to win more titles and that’s what he cares about."

Bob Myers: Kevin Durant Taking Less Than Max Helps Sustain Warriors' Roster

Jul 7, 2017 5:36 PM

Kevin Durant's decision to take less than his absolute max contract and then less than his non-Bird on top of that, the Golden State Warriors were able to re-sign Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston, while also adding Nick Young.

"Without Kevin foregoing the max, which he obviously deserves, and could have gotten from us or any team in the league; that allowed us to attempt to sign Andre and Shaun and not to have renounce them," said Bob Myers. "Had Kevin asked for the maximum salary, like I said which he deserves and could have had, it gives (us) a chance to sign Andre and Shaun.

"And beyond that, by him even taking less than the non-Bird it almost assured us of getting those guys. His gesture gave us the ability to be very aggressive in pursuing Shaun and Andre. I can pretty much unequivocally say without it, we're not looking at the team we have right now.

"What Kevin did shows who he is, shows what he's about and I think it's clear that's winning. Those things don't go unnoticed."

Myers also spoke about how David West and Iguodala have taken less money while Stephen Curry's extension has also facilitated the Warriors to build their roster.

"That's how you sustain success," said myers. "You may stumble upon success a few years but if you want continued success on a team for many years, it requires those types of things. He did it on his own volition, which makes it that much more impactful and impressive to me. Kevin Durant is a max player for the foreseeable future.. forever. For him to do something like that is commendable. All we can do as an organization when given that responsibility and opportunity is go take advantage of it.

"Without him doing that, other sacrifices as far as the roster would have had to be made."
